Is it time?

OK, I am currently downloaded FFXI, so I can start playing it this weekend. But, first I thought that I would decide to come on here to learn about the game. Well, what I really want to know is it a good time to join FFXI? How many people still play FFXI? I have played, WoW and they seem to have to many people on sometimes. Anyway, thanks for your help all!

Well I'm in game right now and on my server during NA Prime Time there are 2000 people on playing. I wouldn't say thats a huge amount but its not too small either. I believe there are 30ish servers with varying amounts of players on each. Imo, any time is a good time to play FFXI but there have been a lot of improvements recently that make it an especially good time.

It seems to me the demeanor of the game, at least on Ifrit, has changed over the years. It definitely isn't what it was at NA launch. It's not so much that the population has diminished as the fact that most people are near or at endgame.

That being said, SE has made the game much more friendly to newcomers in terms of forming parties, earning EXP, etc. You'll also have an immense amount of content to enjoy.

It's a fine time to start playing if you're looking for a unique gaming blah blah blah... FFXI is fun. When I first started playing FFXI was my favourite time.

I haven't had any trouble gaining experience on low level jobs, so I assume you should be fine. Although I can't testify to what it would be like doing Missions and other Quests.
