Another New Player... :)

Hi, new player here. I got the game free back when the FFXI Fan Faire came to my college town. Now that it's summer, I figured I'd give it a try.

I've been playing for a few days now and so far it's pretty fun, except I die all the time. I swear I'm the master at dieing in MMO games. :X Right now I'm an Elvaan 12 WAR in San d'Oria on Phoenix. I've done all the missions I can for my level. I've been selling crystals and stuff I've gotten from exping and been trying to upgrade my armor so it's not so gimpy starter stuff. I've never been further than the newb areas outside San d'Oria and I'm not sure though what I should do and where should I go, since the exp in the newb area is sucking now. Maybe I could level another job so I can have a subjob when I get to 18, I dunno... Any suggestions?

At level 12, you are ready to start partying. The most popular spot to start is Valkrum Dunes, because you can do your subjob quest there as well. Ask in town for somebody headed that way, or you can follow my directions, but it's a dangerous journey the first time. Head south from West Ronfarue to La Theine Plateau, the monsters get tougher around here. Be careful around the orcs, goblins and big sheep, and watch out for undead at night. You can get your first teleport crystal here, at the huge crag on the west side of the map. Valkrum Dunes is south of La Theine, again be careful of the goblins and undead. There is a small town here, Selbina, where you can set your homepoint.

Then just put your invite flag on [type /inv], you will see a green exclamation point next to your name. Now just wander around selbina chatting to NPC's and soon someone will ask you to party. Accept their invite, and ask for directions.
