This is mostly a forum to chat about things, much in the same way Fires of Heaven and TheOrderLS function, only more structured. The nice thing is that most of the people here are fairly knowledgable.

Not like the alla DB was going anywhere. It still doesn't have all the CoP missions in. Most of the information we got nowadays was from the main forum from helpful posts.

Even though they have links, at least they didn't claim to have morals and sell out, they just didn't have them in the first place. And i'd rather go to a site with RMT banners than a site owned by RMT

or you could just use the wiki, not my favorite, but it works.

Yeah, the links on the front page through me off for a while. I think its one of those things that was initially desired and Ping just hasn't had time to work on it yet.
I usually use somepage for my database needs and occasionally alla for specifics on quests and such. Though that may not be happening anymore.
Anyway, welcome to all of you, hope you enjoy and appreciate this place as much as I do. It certainly keeps me sane during long days at work.

Btw, be sure to use the search function whenever you can. Its actually the best one I've found on any FFXI forums. Seems to work pretty well and saves a lot of time over making a new thread and waiting for replies (many of which will be "use the search function").

I'm another Allakhazam refugee. Have to confess that I'm one of those who had never heard of this forum before. I like it, though, and the gil/RPG mod seems pretty interesting.

I can't even figure out why IGE would want a video game forum. To try and force others into seeing them in a different light? I thought RMT was like crack. It sold itself. No marketing required. Seems odd since I didn't even know Alla was a profitable website.

Free advertisment, I guess.. Alla didn't make that much money, none of the admins have [had, even some of their own admins are upset] had it as a full time job, it's all what they do while bored at work. It's cash on the side, they couldn't survive off it.

Brand extension. Right now they are only seen in the negative light of providing illegal RMT services in games that do not allow it. Anything that could change that perception, like running a premier MMO website could make them seem less and less evil to the sites users.

On top of that, it's like Coca-Cola owning and distributing other, seemingly competing brands of cola. People get what they want, some even thinking they aren't supporting a greedy American conglomerate, but all the profit still goes back to Coca-Cola. So if IGE can't convince everyone to buy gil/gold/whatever EQ uses, they can get money from them via subscriptions to the website. Some of them also think they aren't supporting IGE by using Alla.
