Playing two characters at the same time.

If you have a PC and a PS2 near each other (or a PS2 and a PS2, or a PC and a PC), you can play two characters at once. You'll need a seperate POL account for each, though.

Re: Couple of questions from a casual adult player

While I haven't tried it, I think there's possibility for a static duo/trio to make pretty good exp on Toughs, even if they aren't all BST. Hardly anyone does this because you can make somewhat better exp by filling up to 6 and fighting VT-IT, but there's no reason it *has* to be that way; a static duo/trio doesn't face a lot of the same problems as a soloer (can't chain on mobs weaker than EM, have to fill all roles at once, can't rest while fighting/pulling).

How many times have you been in a party that lost one member, pulled a couple of the same or slightly weaker mobs, and killed them only a bit slower? I've done it several times. 6 members is conventional, and probably optimal, but not mandatory.

Furthermore, if they're not going to play for very long at a time, they can use NPCs to fill out their numbers (after they get level 30 and can do the quest)... You would probably want at least one PC capable of taking over any crucial role and a PC puller would be mandatory, but there's no reason NPCs couldn't help some. And you get exp as a 3 member pt instead of a 6 member (although you might have to fight slightly weaker mobs).

If you are going to do this, you can't rely on website recommendations of what's a good leveling area at level X - those assume a party of 6 PCs. But if you're willing to do some trial and error and see what areas and mobs work for you, I think there will be some. (As a static PT you won't be limited to popular spots, either. Try Tahrongi, Buburimu, Korroloka, Batallia, Zi'Tah... there's lots of possibilities.)

Thanks for the well thought out reply Kar. I have loaded in the game and am now playing around in game.
I'm finding the interface a little confusing, but am managing.

try playing with a controller. it's much, much easier to get the hang of.

remember, this game was designed to be played on a ps2, so it was designed to be played with a ps2 controller
