  • Picked Fresh!

Yeah... I'm new. To both FFXIOnline.com, and Final Fantasy Online the game.

I'm also having some real trouble... is there anyone out there who could give me some tips on leveling up/earning money? I've started in Windurst as a Mithra (warrior).

Oh, and also... is it appropriate to just approach people and ask questions? This is the first MMORPG I've played, and I'm not sure if it's alright to just walk up to PC and start talking away.

That goes especially since I don't have a USB Keyboard yet... it takes forever to type one sentence with the controller.

Any tips would be great; thank you!

Just ask question to anyone, most likly they'll help you out, if not, they are probably busy with their own stuff... But getting a USB keyboard as soon as possible would be best tip to give you right now. Try your specific forum areas. What server/world are you playing on? Any how, I hope you enjoy your stay, feel free to ask around here also.

I got a keyboard just yesterday (two days after starting the game), and it's much easier to speak with people without them asking if I'm there...

Whenever I log on, it says 'Welcome to Phoenix!', so I'm guessing that's the server I'm on.

I used the shout command on my second day and... sort of bluntly stated I needed help. >.<;; Someone came to help me, and let me join their shellchat, so I know a few people who help me out a lot now.

        And thanks. =D
Oh! My character's name is Lithian, so if anyone wants to make a party with me, go for it!

best way to start off the game is by selling crystals.

fire, wind, and lightning crystals sell for quite a bit of cash.

I've heard Beehive Chips (or whatever they're called... I forgot) sell well, too. But, a friend told me to sell the Crystals and Chips in 'stacks'. What does this mean?

A "stack" is a batch of the same item, 12 are usually the ammount of items you can "stack", some stack to 99 units too, to sort and stack your items, proceed as explained:

              Open the inventory menu;
              Click the Square buttong on the controller;
On the right side, a little console will appear, press "Auto" and then confirm.

Items that "stack", usually have a number beside their name on the inventory, when you get one of these items it will show up on the Inventory like so: "Beehive Chip 1", the number being the ammount of items on your stack, so if you had 2 beehive chips, after using the sort option, you will see "Beehive Chip 2", meaning you "stacked" 2 items of the same type, this is usefull to clear space on your inventory.

If items have no number beside their name, it means they cannot be stacked.

Starting in windurst I would kill Crawlers (caterpillar thingys) for stacks of silk. They sale for alot and they go quick in AH. As for leveling, I would just take it steady, murder Easy Prey's in mass amounts till level 10 then head to Valkurm Dunes around level 11 or 12 to get into party play. While waiting for a party I would also run around Konschtat Highlands killing Easy preys to pass time and gain a little experience while waiting. Hope this helps!

It's always refreshing to see good people come to the game. Welcome! I hope you come to enjoy (and hate: its one of those love hate things ;p ) the game like many of us do.

Yes, since you are in windurst, beehive chips do sell very well. You should be able to collect them all throughout your beginning levels.

Some other items easily attainable in windurst that sell well are:

Silk Threads: these stack and sell for a nice amount.
Yagudo necklaces: these do not stack, thus making them a hassle to lug around at times. but sell for a fair amount. people are always buying them for fame building purposes.

                    have fun!

I've gotten my Warrior job up to level 10, and so started leveling up my Red Mage, which is now at level 5. I'll check out the Valkurm Dunes as you suggested. I've only been to Port Windhurst, Windhurst Woods, East and West Sarutabaruta, and Tehi... um... I forgot how to spell it. It's the Canyon that you can access in the North-East part of East Sarutabaruta. Annnyways, a change would be nice, so thank you for the tip! =D

Do you know if it would be better for me to sell Yagudo Necklaces to PC? Or the NPC that someone suggested to me in the Mithra Groves? I think she's in... J-3 of the Windhurst Woods, and gives about 300 gil per four necklaces.

                      Thanks again!

Something a lot of people pass up because they want to get ahead in the game is doing quests around your main town- this can really help out as later on when you want to do a specific quest you should have enough fame for it.

If you didn't know, fame affects NPC sale prices on certain items as well as which quests you can get from certain NPCs. It kind of simulates how well known you are. There's an NPC in each town who can tell you what level of fame you're at but it's not terribly important at the moment.

Anyways, I hope you have a lot of fun in vana'diel xD.

well it depends. 1) yes it does build fame, there is a mithra that takes them. this also affects fame for Norg. you'll learn more about it later, but people want fame in Norg b/c there are a few quests there that give scrolls that Ninja's can use. they are pretty pricey too! 2) check the prices on your server, on remora, they run 1k each. so if you come across them often, you can gather up a nice amount of gil just from selling these.

it's not the square button. it's the triangle button (the one at the top of your controller)

some advise: go to port windhurst. there's a lot of stores scattered around there that sell low-level gear at stupid-cheap prices. don't waste your money buying things off the ah if you can help it.

when you go to valkrum dunes, if you are a warrior, buy a stack of meat jerky (auction house > food > meals > meats) it should cost you about 2k or so. these boost your damage for awhile. also, don't use a sword. use a great axe. it's better. one handed axes are good too.

don't take up any crafting until you reach maybe level 60 or so (if then ). to make money, just sell anything you find on the ah, in stacks when possible. crafting is a waste of money until the higher crafting levels, and it takes a lot of gil invested to reach those levels.

second advise: when navigating this website, learn how to use the search option. it's at the top right hand corner of your screen. almost any question you can ask can be answered by using that function. it's often faster and more efficient than opening a new thread to ask a question that's been answered 20 times (like a lot of new ppl do )

just some advise to help you get started. welcome to vana diel
