Are posts like those in http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/ffx...eta-video.html typical of this forum these days? I used to read it more often, have barely touched it in years, but from my memory I recall it being a friendlier place than Alla, KI, or the BG forums... but coming upon this thread, I find I must re-evaluate standing decision to recommend this forum to new players.

So, is it typical, or is it particularly worse than is normal?

Don't let one thread deter people from the site. Heated battles break out on any and every forum there is. The site is still great for FFXI resources as well as FFXIV resource information and everybody is helpful to new users. Everybody is trying to get as much scoop as we can on FFXIV as we can since the alpha started and because of that, there haven't been as many FFXI topics around on the board as of late. However, we still welcome new people to the site all the time.

Pretty sure we are still alot more relaxed and friendly than some sites around.

Kailea is probably replying directly because he's in the same LS as I, and may think that my post is intended as jumping to his defense -- which is a nice thought, but not actually the case. I was linked to the thread in question from elsewhere, and it is the volume of harsh posts in it that I found as cause for alarm more than to whom they were directed.

This forum does, like any other, have its fair share of heated debates, but the major difference is that, when all is said and done even after the most intense of them, we don't carry any major grudges. On places like BG, if you get annoyed with someone, you tend to carry that through all of their posts. Here, I've never seen that.

I think the major issue with the recent happenings was that people seem to have a big problem with others doing the right thing when the right thing is the unpopular thing. You'd all be glad to hear that a salvage duper or an HNM botter got banned, because those people are actually cheating in FFXI and that causes them to have an unfair advantage over you, but when someone did something that you probably considered good (most did), and got banned, it caused an uproar. (Not saying the salvage bans didn't, but most people understood why it happened.) Especially when it comes out that someone you kind of know had a hand in "ruining" this so-called good thing. Then again, some people (especially on BG) were of the mindset that salvage duping and botting are good things, so didn't understand why it pissed SE off so much. Gotta remember that the rules aren't up to the community and that you won't always like them. I mean fuck, why shouldn't I be allowed to MPK RMTs?!?

Bottom line on that subject (and it's the last I will say on it, I didn't get a chance in either of the locked threads), Kai did the right thing. Bragging about it wasn't a great idea, but it was right to report it, just like you should report someone who is pos hacking or taking advantage of an exploit. I could go on and on, and this will make me unpopular, but rules are still rules.

Anyway, around here, we still generally get along. I've seen some serious "You're stupid." "No, you are!" posting on other boards, and you really don't see that here too much except in extreme situations. And even when all those arguments die, generally, so does the animosity.

It does seem more that you're coming to Kai's defense cause of that particular topic. There have been worse things said in other topics, and out of all those, you bring up that one.

Nothing wrong with sticking up for a buddy, but as Dura said, you can't let the opinions of angry people in one topic be the determining factor for you bringing new members.

Seriously though, in terms of friendly FFXI conversation, you're not going to really find a better forum. This place is nowhere near the level of BG, Alla, and KI. Yeah, there are arguments, but they don't get so unbelievably out of control that the only way to take care of it is to bring down the banhammer. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a long time member get banned - even temporarily - for getting out of line. And when I read Advanced on BG, some threads result in half a dozen people getting banned.

This forum just doesn't have that kind of shit.

Since this discussion is civil so far, we will leave it open. If it turns into a soapbox or name calling starts, it will be closed. Stick closely to the topic at hand, we aren't going down that road again.

This forum has always been one of the more mature and friendly ones. That doesn't mean that things don't get out of hand at all. It is rare though. Remember emotions were high as everyone was so excited about the game and grateful that Pooky had done what he did for the community.

Well thinking about the outrage over the salvage bans, many were grateful for what the people who discovered the glitch had done for the game ... and really pissed at the people who reported them. That still didn't make it right.

I mean I see both sides, but really it's not worth arguing over. Those of you who got to see it should (I guess) be glad for what you got to see, if it made you more excited about the game. It's over now so why sweat it?

It was pointless for them to leak info cause SE released a buttload of screens and info right after anyway. So reporting them for releasing info SE released a little after was a waste. But how were they supposed to know I guess?
