Forget the necros, we need measures to make sure that bad threads don't get started in the first place.

As for the subject at hand, let me ask you this. Why such a big deal about necro'd posts? You click it, you see its necro and you close it. If you accidentally post in it, who cares!? What never ceases to amaze me is when some idiot has to post in the thread yelling or making some asinine sarcastic comment at the person that raised the thread. Honestly, is that necessary? You have new members come on the forums and 50% of the necro'd threads are from them ACTUALLY DOING A SEARCH and finding the appropriate thread and posting in it. How many times have people jumped on someone for not doing a search? And then when they do it and post, you yell at them for necro'ing!

As long as the post is relevant to the topic and not just bumping just to bump (i.e. posting "lolz" in a 2 year old topic), I don't see the problem in necros.

Look, since the ancient times (and to this day) people have tried:

Cursing, magic seals, holy water, fire, frightening stories and legends, several types of firearms of different calibers, political maneuvering, senate-seat auctioning, internetz warfare, sending private countermeasure task forces, sending the army, nuking the entire city, etc. etc.

And nothing has worked, nothing.

Want to feel safer when facing the undead? Keep a combat knife and a shotgun with you at all times and be prepared to do your civic duty of fighting the undead mano a mano.

Simple as that.


..or you know, shotgun shot to the head, whichever works for you.

On topic: Probably TM could implement some sort of warning that would let people know they are posting on a thread that has been inactive for some time. Say the message could appear for the first 5 posters replying after 3-6 months of inactivity or something.

Nothing intrusive, just a little reminder for those who are necro-sensitive.

Seems like a good idea but I don't think I can do it. I have the same shiny title and PiNG and AKo but there's still a quantum leap between our access levels.
