I was thinking that a separate forum for more serious discussion would be a good idea. On another forum that I frequently visit, there is a news section within which people post news articles and discuss relevant topics. I figured it might be a good idea here, since there seem to be many intelligent posters.

Re: News/Debate forum?
That would be the off topics forum.

Re: News/Debate forum?
I'm only suggesting this because, psychologically, people feel more encouraged to post news articles and such if a separate forum was available. Besides, if posting articles were to become a more frequent activity, that might be necessary. If given the opportunity, I'd be willing to a sufficient job of posting articles of interest.

Re: News/Debate forum?
We use the general topics forums for stuff like that. There's not a lot of article posting that goes on, but there's some. If you think it'd be good for us to have more non-ffxi related discussion, no better way than to get the ball rolling yourself.

Well I'm not ashamed to admit that I know what's best for you. Haha. But seriously, I'll see about getting that ball rolling as I become a more active member at this point. Murphie's got a point. It's pretty pretentious of me to start hollering for reform within 24 hours of signing up.

We might not notice as much if it wasn't such a common pattern lately. X3

It's an interesting suggestion, and a fairly good idea. But as stated by others, not much real news gets posted and discussed here. Though it is true that having a special forum for just such a topic might prompt more people to post world news and the like as opposed to the random oddball 'news' that gets posted more often then not now. Though I know I'd prolly never use it myself because I for the most part choose to remain one of the 'ignorant masses', I can see many others actively participating in 'real' news discussions and why it would be nice to do so within an established community such as this one. It's certainly not a bad idea and it is within reason to be looked into imo."I have a forebrain, my ability to abstract thoughts allow for all kinds of things" - Red Mage 8-Bit theater

I'm merely commenting on the fact that we have lately had a lot of new people that pop up and have a bunch of ideas for how we should do things here at FFXIO. I wasn't flaming anyone, or being unpleasant.

Re: News/Debate forum?
Not that I'm aware of. Most of us read new posts via the "New Posts" feature, however, so it's not a big deal for reading. Just for actually posting new topics.
People mostly post new topics in General, Off Topic, or their specific Job/Server board. Most of the other ones aren't used too often.
