    Re: News/Debate forum?

To illustrate what neighbortaru is talking about, allow me to provide pictorials

You can click on the up or down arrow on the right side of the bar to hide or unhide any group of forums (this is linked to your user profile here, so once you set it the forum will remember your preference).

I already knew what he meant. But my idea of consolidation has evolved into something else. Organizing the server category into one forum with those subforums like the job and guild forums have.

I don't see where the difference is compared to what we have at the moment.

Hiding the server forum list does basically the same thing (and in any case, regular visitors generally use the New Posts or Today's Posts features instead of looking at specific forums anyhow).

The only advantage would be a centralized location for members of all servers, but that sort of discussion goes into the General Discussion forum, and thus would be somewhat superfluous.

yep, much quicker and easier to use. Plus, if you don't go away for more than a few days, it's a pretty managable list. If it's still too much for you, you can just skim the top of "Today's Posts", then check your subscriptions on your user panel.

You're not seeing what I'm saying. The server list right now is organized into a series of forums. But they could be condensed into one forum with subforum listings. It wouldn't necessarily be the same as hiding them because it would still be visible, but just in a more compact form.

I do see what you're saying, but as I said, it doesn't offer a practical improvement over what's already available IMO.

Personally, I'd prefer to see just the server-specific forum you belong to pop up, but that's not really fair to people who have characters on multiple servers, I suppose.

Now that's a neat idea. Sometimes on a bad day it's hard to see where your servers forum is.

But like I said, it was more of an idea to make the set-up more aesthetically pleasing. It would just make sense for me to have all the servers listed as subforums under an all-server forum. People could still talk in an all-server area but they could narrow it down.

When it comes to forums, I would almost always choose function over form.

Can just do a by-the-numbers analysis; if sub-forums are getting less than one post a week each on average, there's no point to the sub-division.

                        yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
leaving no trace in the water.

I actually didn't know you could hide subforums like that until today >.>

But function isn't being sacrificed either way.

But then there's no point in having them as forums either.

Yes, but a form change isn't necessary. Not with the current workload the admins have.

Heck, we lost a number of form features about a year ago that we may never see again (unfortunately). I'd rather them devote their time to that than worry about this change.
