Re: Fansites, get a better server!
There's multiple scheduled tasks that triggers every night starting around 11pm ~ 2am PST. Now, i've moved it over to span over the all the tasks to go from 10pm ~ 6am, it used to be much slower before, so after doing some adjustments it's a bit more faster. Still most high-loading scripts are ran between 11pm ~ 2am.
I'm trying to find/allocate funds to get a better server, Right now i'm looking into having server upgraded to xeon processors. But it's very hard trying to allocate funds when there's less than two weeks left, LOL. Right now the server runs on a regular P4 with 4GB of ram.
The yearly contract is over in about 9 more days from now. I'm still looking into what I should do server wise. or even service. I'm constantly emailing and talking back and forth with the service provider at moment. At least try to get CPU upgrade.
Also, whatever I choose, I'm going to have to come up with newer version of the site, (yearly change thingy ). One thing I noticed is that the current site uses alot of graphics and alot of client side rendering for page loads... for example on my slow laptop (P3 1.0Ghz) the site takes about 5 secs to load, where my desktop (P4 3.4ghz) opens the page in less than a sec. I'll probably go ahead and do what I planed last year... make a different theme to meet each user's preference.
After everything gets taken care of, I should able to focus on this site more.
