  • English speaker in JP time zone.

I've recently moved overseas and I log on and can't get ANYTHING done. Nobody lets me join them for their shouts or invites me to anything because I'm not Japanese. (Example, I've seen and asked to join countless Odin shouts (yes, JP folks, I can read Odin SMN fight in Japanese, as well as the jobs you're asking for and the fact that you want people to have triggers already and how many people you need.))

The English speaking population on the server during my prime time (and really only time to play) is too low to really do anything. I've joined a Singaporean LS and they're cool but it doesn't help me do a lot.

A long shot, but I'm about to quit FFXI for good at this rate (and who knows if i'll join FFXIV if its the same way), any servers actually have a decent sized english speaking community? The Ragnarok server doesn't seem to be beneficial to my playtime.

I sympathise with your situation, while I'm EU I'm often on similar times to you and whenever I'm on during the daytime I can literally flag up at 8am and will not receive a single Japanese invite through till 5pm whether I'm on corsair or dancer. If I try to make parties I either receive silence or variations on [English][Thanks for the offer but I'll have to pass]. A friend last week received [English][Diseased] when responding to a WG shout for members. Sorry to say, other than the odd rare mixed daytime party you're wasting your time seeking until the late evening (GMT) when the North American population start to log on.

That said, there's a fairly healthy EU population on Fenrir. We have Dyna, Limbus, Ein, and Sky shells although the Sky and Dyna attendance has nosedived lately but the latter is at least showing signs of picking up.

If you can read the shouts well enough to know what they're talking about, maybe you should try installing JP POL and logging in through Japanese client sometime. Showing you can talk a bit might ease tensions some. I also played Fenrir during JP Prime, didn't really have any harder a time getting a party then than during the day, and I'm not talking about popular jobs. As always, if you can try to form parties yourself, things will go easier-- if you can get one Japanese player to join your party, they'll often be able to get other people to join. If you can make friends with a JP that makes parties often and group up with them frequently, things get much less painful, especially if they know enough English to tell you what's going on. With level sync, I imagine it works even better to try to stick with someone you know.

      tl;dr-- Let's be friends!

Not meaning to say, "You don't play this game so your opinion is worthless" but that was over 4-5 years ago Feba and the population has changed a great deal over the years. If anything it seems to be returning more to the way it was in 2003 where the JP population was ultra-insular. There are still some pretty cool JPs out there but you remember them more for the fact they're the exception to the rule.

Definitely, but most people in general are dicks. There will always be those who aren't, though, and you should seek them out.
