Question about server choice.

Well, I decided to start playing FFXI again...
I couldn't retrieve my account, and it's probably been deleted since it was created shortly after the game launched in the US. I'm trying to join a buddy who still has a character on Sylph. It's not on the list of servers to choose, nor is the Fairy server being merged with it.

My question is if Sylph will be a choice after the server merges are complete. If not, is there any way we can play together besides paying for a character transfer?

Not sure if SE had said anything about this directly, but it would seem likely.

After all, it would be somewhat silly to merge two world together to solve an underpopulation problem, only to create an overpopulation problem which necessitates a World lock on new characters.
