Not directed at any of you in particular, rather than some members of the FFXI in general.

So you thought FFXI was dying and needed server merges to keep populations from bottoming out. While I (and apparently, S-E as well) didn't notice any particular problems on Carbuncle, personally, it would seem that a few servers did happen to need a merging. There, apparently you were, at least partially, correct.

Why, then, do you still complain?

I'm seeing distress about the chaos that would be inherent in a server merger. Gee, didn't think that through last time you were being vocal, now did ya? And of course we still see the regular doomsayer crowd whose sole purpose of existence is to inform us unenlightened folk that FFXI is dying, or even trying to boldfacedly insist that this is evidence that FFXI, as we see it before our very eyes, is already dead. Which is obviously also not the case, otherwise we wouldn't see the first negative crowd running around like decapitated chickens panicking about the "chaos" that would ensue from these mergers, as if FFXI were truly dead, most of the former party's complaints would be moot. And, hilariously, there even exist people who reside in both camps!

I apologize, but this was just a rant I needed to get off of my chest. I'm sick of all these negative nuisances, some of which who don't even play anymore, nor have any good reason to continue using its forums, doing nothing but being . . . well, vocally negative! They are worse than even Feba, who at least has entertainment value going for him.

Someone in my LS looked into it and told us that the server being merged into gets to keep their names no matter what. I haven't looked into it but it seemed to be agreed upon by alot of other people to be true. The evicted have no rights. So... Cerberus people get to keep their names while those of Hades who have the same name will have to change.

Another tidbit I never thought of... get all your items out of your Deliver Box, Mail Box, and AH... they will all disappear forever... yeah.. like The Sandlot "FORRRRRREVVVERRRRRR". Also... LS pearls won't make the trip but LS owners will be given a new pearl (claim ticket? idk) instead of having to purchase another.

Dammit, I forgot all about that. I was trying to not login until after the merge lol, because my hard drive went wonky and I didn't reinstall FFXI on the new one yet. Oh well, guess I'll start reinstalling when I get home.

What happens to the Auction House during a server merge?

Treat it like if you chose to leave for another server, if it isn't in your inventory or mog house, you loose it.

As for the names, they already addressed this along with other things -

'Character Data:
Other than the data listed below, all character data will be transferred to the new world. This includes character status, belongings, gil and key items.

Character Name:
In cases where a character with the same name already exists on the "Destination World," you may be required to change the name of your character. If this is necessary, your character name on the character selection screen before login will be displayed in yellow. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the change.

Changing the character name will not affect data such as your Friends List.

Items stored in the Delivery Box or Auction House:
Items and gil stored in the Delivery Box or Auction House will be deleted automatically when the World Merge takes place. Please move them to your character's belongings or Mog Safe before the World Merge.

Please note that items and gil lost in the merge cannot be restored through the Item Restoration service.

Linkshell, Pearlsack and Linkpearl:
Pearlsacks and Linkpearls cannot be carried over to the "Destination World," and will disappear during the World Merge. Linkshell owners will receive an unopened Linkshell when they log into the "Destination World" for the first time. Unopened Linkshells will not be affected by the merge.

Please note that you will need to create a new Linkshell Community after creating a new linkshell on the "Destination World."'

LOL. IDK, Something went wrong with my windows 7 about a month after I installed it. The drive still works great, but it won't boot to W7.

I still need to get around to making or buying a backup center for my stuff. If I get a better rate on my car insurance I'll probably put together a 4TBish NAS.

What I want to know is if you quit or whatever for a period of time, then came back after the merge, you'd be screwed out of all your shit in your delivery box? That would suck. I know I personally used to use my dbox as another storage unit sometimes (like when we were farming a lot of zeni and I needed space) and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Would suck if you took some time off and then came back and all of your gil from the AH and random other crap was gone. And it's not like those people had a choice but to be transferred.

Was just something I thought of. You know me, I often consider the obscure possibilities.

As for the merge - crowded camps ewwwwwww - but the fact that Hades is being sent to Cerb is going to be entertaining to watch unfold. Server reputations being what they are.

I haven't checked yet on ffxiah (should) but the only character name I'm particularly worried about a likely conflict with is Myrna, and that also happens to be the one I'd least mind changing I suppose. The rest seem to be fairly obscure, even Koren which I thought would be kind of common (probably the biggest worry there is if someone on Quetz is an SD3 fan; didn't even remember at the time that one of the villains had that name, let alone a male villain).

Edit: Holy shit, there are 6 Kumeis... Not one on Quetzalcoatl, thankfully, but wtk? Seems I may be out of luck on Koren too, there's both a Koren and a Korenn on Quetz... though Koren there hasn't been active on the AH for about 2 years, might get lucky and the char will actually be gone or sufficiently inactive to not count. If not...well, just as well we don't really RP anymore I guess.
