  • How many people on your server?

After being gone for 5 years I started a new character on the Leviathan server and so far I am enjoying the mechanics of the game much more than I used to.
The only thing that I find odd is what appears to me to be a lack of people. When I first started playing there were tons of people running around Bastok yelling and hawking wares and now it almost seems like a ghost town.
There appears to be roughly 1500 people on server on average. Is this typical for all servers?
Is everyone just hanging out at higher level areas or is this pretty much what the game is like now?
Any suggestions on how to get some pick up parties at low levels?

Its about right for bismark, ive seen it as high as 2500 at prime time but about 1500-1800 is normal.

As for the starter cities the higher level players dont tend to spend much time there cause the AH is understocked and theres no real reason to be there beyond random quests and getting things out of storage. I dont come to basty very often except to run through to go the the past or get a fast warp to whitegate. A lot of crafters frequent the cities tho for the different guilds.

Home nations still have a lot to offer to adventurers, especially when it comes to transportation.

      - 300 gil Warp to Whitegate (costs an Imperial Silver Piece for the reverse direction)
      - 200 gil Airship ride to Jeuno (good when not in a hurry or want to go semi-AFK)--or, 300 gil profit, if one does the "A Discerning Eye" quest.
      - Regional outpost teleportation.
      - Within running distance to Cavernous Maw, for people w/out Retrace (or don't want to pay for it).
      - Still the only place Mog house Storage can be accessed (up to 80 slot storage, depending on furniture).
      - Can meet up with anyone in any major city (home nations, Jeuno, Aht Urgan Whitegate) via Chocobo Circuit.

Not sure why people still prefer to set HP in Whitegate, when it's so much cheaper to teleport to Whitegate than vice versa. Imperial Silver Piece is worth nearly 1,200 gil on Ifrit; that's almost four home nation to Aht Urgan trips for the price of one trip from Aht Urgan to home nation.

      * * *

To OP: No one wants to be in Bastok--everyone went to Aht Urgan. Maybe.

leaving no trace in the water.

My hp is set to basty just because you can get to anywhere quick from there, hes asking why theres no one in the starter cities, its just cause people just use these to pass through to other areas. Only time I spend and real time in Basty is waiting for dyna to start

As for getting pick up parties at lower levels just put your flag up and go solo/fov and wait for an invite or start your own parties.

Re: How many people on your server?

Depends on the zone you are in. If you go to the zone that the Chocobo Racing area is in, there are usually quite a few mules standing around there selling stuff. Most of the wares are not only related to chocobos, they just figure that'll be a zone that everybody has to go through at some point.

I have my homepoint set in Bastok because usually they'll be in first place, and I like to have my HP set there so I can talk to the quiver NPC.

The tax was removed from Jeuno so now all of the mules that were in "Mule Alley" are now inside Upper Jeuno selling their wares. I'm pretty sure when they added ToAU, the majority of the peeps left Jeuno and went to Whitegate so it is even more bare than it used to be.

There are so many places to be now that I guess the majority of peeps in starter areas are either new people or mules.

How long does it take to get to Whitegate from a beginning character? Where is the most active AH?

If you can't access Whitegate yet, then Jeuno is the most active AH.

As far as getting to Whitegate, here is the quest you need to complete:

When I was on Titan there was a regular population of 3000+, but that was a year ago so that may have changed. I'm now on Remora and there is at highs about 2800-3000 with an average of around 1800-2400 people on, though this might differ depending on your area. I am in a GMT time zone so it may increase as i start to log out, but who knows

I was surprised that the Rolanberry bazaar stayed in place on Fairy. On Fairy, Lower Jeuno is the most active zone, so maybe it stayed out there because it's outside the popular city zone, only without the lag and spam. Also, Upper Jeuno requires you to zig-zag, but Lower is straight through except for the wall at the core. Even before the tax was removed, there were mules selling stuff around the core in the lower three levels anyhow, and Rolanberry was (and still is) mainly for the high-priced stuff, where you can idle overnight without a bunch of spam in your chat log.

(I'm aware that other servers have had their mule bazaar in the other two zones too. It's kind of interesting, actually.)

FYI: 2196 on Fairy right now, just before JP-midnight.

That is pretty interesting. Our "Mule Alley" was majorly in Batallia, but there would be a few scattered mules in front of Rolanberry, and none in Champaign. So when they fixed the tax, all the ones that were out there moved to upper Jeuno. I didn't really realize it until a few weeks ago when I just happened to wander out there to check the bazaars and nobody was there lol. The majority of them are gathered at the center of town by the shops.
