What do we know about it? How does one get to play on Atomos? Are there any advanatages or disadvantages? I know in some other MMOs you can play on test servers that give higher EXP rates at the risk of random/unannounced server wipes. I am just curious...

afaik, regular players cannot get on atomos. it's only for devs and QA

Gil is probably available - the problem would be that there would be nothing to buy.
I speak from experience - this is exactly the situation we had on the Cactuar server during the NA beta. Lots of people with cash, but since we didn't have many crafters, and not many high level players, there really wasn't anything much to spend it on. I don't think anyone even managed to win a BCNM in beta (though we tried ), so stuff we take for granted these days like Refresh, Utsusemi: Ni and Erase were non-existent on the beta server.
