  • Decreasing Prices

    Hello FFXI fans. I wanted to ask something about prices decreasing. Does it happen fast on your server? Like when you see something that was profitable the first day and then a few days later, it's not profitable? I heard Asura has a bad economy, but I just wanted to ask others about this because it seems prices are decreasing fast only to sell stuff fast. Can this get the point where it doesn't make a profit anymore? Since it's just a bit ridiculous how fast it happens. I could understand if someone decreases the prices of guild items at the auction house since some people think it's unfair for people to take all of a certain WANTED item from a guild and sell it for a higher price at the auction house. Anyway, I'll get back to the point. Do prices decrease fast on your server? Do the prices ever recover back to a reasonable prices at some time?

    Thanks for reading,
    - Rainblade

    They have decreased on odin. Now they are steady. Wind crystals are almost nothing now since ToA has come out. SH is down to about 4.5 mil, Spiked Finger Gauntlets are around 1.5 now. I am scared to see what Chritsmas time is going to be like this year.
    Thanks Kazuki.

      Prices have dropped way down on bahamut, but they dont tend to fluctuate much each day. SH is 3mil now, Astrals are 900k. All really nice prices, but pissed me off that I paid so much for these items

        Yeah, i've noticed a lot of down swings too. Silk thread is about 1/2 as much as it was three months ago, and Cotton thread is down to about 10k from 35k.

        Both of my easy, high yield high profit synths are gone ;_;

        Stocking up for christmas now <.<

        What can I say... its like the stock market... only I get cool weapons from it...

          Prices fluctuate all the time. Most changes are temporary, some are more permanent. It seems (as Skoal said) wind crystals have bombed since ToAU, and it looks like this might be a more long term drop. As such this will have a knock on effect on other items that use wind C.
          I think over all prices are dropping (and SE said something to the effect when they introduced moglockers, they decided to charge in Imp. currency rather than gil prices as prices were already deflating). On top of this they keep sucking out big chunks of gil when they mass ban RMT.

          But over all, things will drop, things will rise. Be aware of what you are spending, farming, crafting, selling etc and you should be fine.

            Re: Decreasing Prices

            Personally I think the reason is that the gil sellers are relying more upon crafting than they did in the past and they are competing with each other, thus driving prices down. Also they are continually doing BCNMs and such and unercutting the drops as well. On Bismarck Philosopher stones have dropped from 900k/stack to 450k in 3 weeks. It's gotten to the point where I don't feel like crafting anymore. Their fish botters are out of control, too, and have ruined the sushi market completely. Just about all sushi is around 1/3 the price it used to be, and if you look at the sellers' names it's always the same few selling. IMO, the only way to take back control of the market is to drive out the gil sellers by playing their game - undercutting. I'm tempted to take a hit on the gil, craft prism powders and sell them on a mule near the AH for 1k/stack. I know just selling powders isn't going to do much, but if I can branch out I will. Somethng has to be done about RMT. Square Enix isn't doing enough.

              There are a ton of fish botters that popped up on Leviathan. And its blatantly obvious...

              In the morning, you'll see Bais fishing... then Bbis... then Bcis as the day progresses and each one hits the fishing cap for the day.

              Prices are down to 100 gil over vendor buyback.
