Help with Cantonese LS Members

Hi I'm on Bahamut, I was leveling my WHM at the time in Gustaburg and I met these two players lvl 12 and 9, wearing their starting equip, and none of their weapons. After struggling through and telling them how to equip weapons and such for about an hour they kinda got it.
Now they're in their 20's and still have no subjob, so could someone who speaks Cantonese help out and give me some pointers on how to tell them to get their subjob items?

Cantonese? That could be difficult. Where are they from? Hong Kong?

It's somewhat unusual to see Cantonese speaking players who don't have any grasp of English (though possible I guess, if they live in, say, Shenzian province of China, which is the region closest to Hong Kong).

I'm far from fluent in Cantonese myself, but the first thing you need to find out is whether they're using the Japanese or English version of FFXI. Cantonese, like all Chinese dialects, uses the same written symbols as Mandarin, and Japanese is at its heart a (very) stripped-down version of Chinese. About 30% of the Japanese kanji symbols are intelligible to native Chinese speakers (but not including katakana or hiragana).

If they're using the English version things get tougher. At that point, your best bet is to find someone on your server who is from Hong Kong or is of Cantonese descent who can translate for you.

I figured they were Cantonese since I speak a bit of Mandarin and nothing was getting across, I tried using auto translate and nothing T_T
So I looked up a few words of Cantonese and got some standard greetings across. My LS leader knows some Cantonese, but he's not on all the time and I saw the 3 or 4 of them in my LS without a subjob. So I figured I'd ask. Thanks for your help ^^
