  • Looking for a english speaking server

Hi I just recently bought FFXI (again) and landed on a server called Caithsith, looking for parties I stumbled across too many japaneese people not replying back, so I am starting over and I want to play on a server where the majority speaks english, anyone here plays on a server like that and maybe could help me out with a World pass that I could pay you back when I earned the 1,000 gil which shouldnt be a problem.

All the servers are about the same I'd say. Maybe you're just playing at the wrong time

I personally find that about 12PM CST from my experiences. After 12pm, you're going to run into far more japanese speakers then english.

Consider your approach. If you never use the autotranslator, you will generally not get much back in the way of responses. Some behaviors to avoid:

        1) Do not send party invites blindly. You ask the person first, and if you're forming a new party and it's the first person you're inviting, for the love of god TELL THEM THAT.
        2) If you do not have a fully levelled subjob, expect to seek longer then others. People with no subjob are generally regarded as newbies (even if it's not true), and are typically invited as a last resort. I know it's not fair, but it happens.

1000g for a WP? must only be like 100 ppl on your server

last few WP i bought were 3.5k-4k

if u need a wp to carby or midgar lemme know.

but no matter where u go theres jp ppl.. and there almost always racist against americans.. its their way of life..

before i get flamed.. not ALL jp players are like that

          just the majority

            more like minority...

from my own experiece, I play *exclusively* during japanese times.
Those that are racist make up only a small portion of the player base.
            No more than 20%.
This group of player don't PT with NA simply because you're NA and nothing else.

Others don't really mind partying with NA.
I've been in far more PT that has both players from both side.

HNM, mission, quest, these are different. Communication is important. And thus a lot of JP will not take NA with them for the sole reason of language barrier.

I don't think world pass cost more than 2-3k.
But still, 1k or 3k aren't that much of a different... anyone can afford it np.
And if i remember correctly, gold world pass has a fix price at 1000g too.

back on original topic, your play time should be the main thing that determines what nationality other players would be.
Based on pacific time, if I log in around 1PM to 10PM, majority of players are american.
If I log in after mid night all the way until morning, majority of players will be japanese.
It is really up to your play time.

Cultural differences. JP are prejudiced against bad players. Even a player that you consider to be good may have practices that clash with the JP way of doing things, like finding replacements. Look here for some good insight.

Stop discriminating already. There are bad players on both sides. Who you ran more into will be up to your luck.
I personally get to group with both good NA and JP more often than bad ones.

Plus, it was SE's intention to allow everyone to play on the same servers. So it really doesn't matter which server you chose, you will find a mix of players. Like Jei said, it usually has a lot to do with the time you play.

I will say this though. I have been a few JP parties, and I will say that I had a lot of fun in them. They at least made some effort to communicate with me. And I made a few good friends for it who helped me later on.

But that is the great thing about this game, you can play with people from around the world.

Re: Looking for a english speaking server

I also find, the higher you level, the less and less "JP ONLY" you see. Up until around 60+ I've almost never seen a Japanese person willing to party with an NA person. from 60-75 that changes though. Really, from 1-60 most "new" players are on a learning curve. Experimenting with their jobs, and trying to figure out what works best. I've only ever seen one RDM melee past 60. He was NA, and actually kept up refresh, debuffs, and dispels. So RDM meleeing doesn't really bother me, as long as I have that cocaine-like spell. (>.>) Also, (on Ragnarok, not so sure about other servers.) many of the people that speak Japanese, aren't Japanese; they're Singaporean. I know a LOT of people from Singapore. Since I'm late-night, and end up playing mostly during JP primetime, I have an English/Singaporean LS. 95% of the people in that linkshell speak Japanese, and everyone speaks perfect English. Many of them have told me, that Japanese people dislike NA parties, because of the constant "Gaijin-ism." This term means that most NA people like to go after the IT++ mobs that yield 200XP a pop, and are hard to chain. When most Japanese people prefer to go after the high VT mobs, to the low IT mobs, and chain away, for more XP/hr. Apparently, this is a Japanese person's biggest pet-peeve when in a party with an NA person.

I love the thought of being able to play with Japanese players. Rather than playing on an East Coast Only server, where everyone speaks the same, I get to play with people who live thousands and thousands miles away whose culture is completely different. Much more interesting if you ask me.

Fairy has a mix of two, real early in the morning you will see JP players, since it is their prime, and around 12pm to about 10pm EST is when most NA players are on. It is like that across all servers.

If you are in France Italy, any where over there, you mainly fall into the JP prime time of their gaming. I have ptd with JP players as well when I am on in their Prime time. Just tuff it out things will work out. I started out on Caithsith, but was only there for like 5 levels and my buddy got me a wp to Fairy.

If you would like one let me know.

Midgardsormr is pretty heavily represented by English speaking players, probably more so than any other server (though it's possible that Hades and Remora may be at least equally represented).

Whether you consider this a good thing or not is up for debate. More people to talk to, but more people to create drama with.
