I seem to have to the worst luck when it comes to missions. I dunno if my organizing groups sucks or what, and we did complete the mission. However, it was just excuted so crazy!
I started out forming it by shouting for help, like usual, cause I don't really have a linkshell full of friends or alot of people I know in game. It was forming to be pretty decent. It ended up being THF (me), PLD, DRK, WHM, BLM, RDM, and ffxionline's very own WHM, Estya (Starvingartist) who came along as a helper to get us to the actual battlefield in den of rancor.
Thing's went pretty smoothly in temple of uggalepih, but once getting to den of rancor, all hell broke loose. We went with only 3 unlit lanterns, instead of 4, which would've been the easier solution. That was my fault, I didnt press to make sure we had 4, but I did try to get as many as we could. It is hard to find people who need the mission who actually had unlit lanterns, and besides me, the 2 other people who did, did not need the mission. However, my unlit lantern became useless, when I stupidly and unknowingly used my unlit lantern on the wrong altar of rancor. I got the wrong item, and it made mine useless. The other 2 who had unlit lanterns had to go back and forth a few times. One of the people who had one also didnt trade their unlit lantern the first time they went to the altar. Between them having to go to the altar a few times, there was a few deaths in between. It doesnt sound too bad, but I almost feel to blame, because during all this, we wasted alot of time. If 4 of us had unlit lanterns, and we knew exactly what we were doing, we could've been done so much sooner.
Most of the party waited at the gate where the 4 lanterns needed to be lit, and while the people who had to light the lanterns went to the altar and came back, we fought off the mobs that kept spawning in the area. However, when the DRK went go get the rancor flame for the 4th lantern, they didnt tell the party they were doing that, so the DRK went through the gate by himself, and the gate closed. Someone came up with the idea that, since it was a DRK who went through the gate by himself, we could all kill ourselves, and he could tractor us in! lol so like a bunch of fools, we all let ourselves die, and we're laying there dead. We had raise 3, we didnt care much.
Then the DRK, says "lmao, i hope you dont hate me" and he noticed there was a switch on the other side of the gate to open it. lol none of us knew this was there. This is why having someone knowing what he's doing coming along is very important lol. Anyway, we all got raised, and we went into the battlefield. It wasn't the smoothiest battle possible. The DRK died twice, because he must've had alot of tonberry hate, he got hit for 5300 damage. However, we did win, and completed the mission so that was nice.
lol I'm not complaining about anyone's performance, and I'm not angry. I can't help though, feeling like I'm a sucky player, because I always have these rediculous things happen during mission runs where everyone dies. I wish something I organize could go smoothly for a change. I'm afraid to plan anything again, because when something does go wrong, I feel bad if I'm the one to blame. It was an experience won't forget easily, but I just hope no one blames me for it's poor execution.
