  • Gilseller Solution

Last night (Thursday night) I saw the same gilsellers farming the same goobbues in Zitah, while listening to reports of gilsellers camping NMs all over the place. After hearing that a gilseller was holding ownership of the morion worm to drive the AH price up on the tathlum, I lost my temper a bit. I called a GM immediately, even though everyone said they would just tell me there was nothing they can do about it and I would be banned if I called them more than once. I was contacted by a GM, who, after I told him how fed up I was, informed me that he plays FFXI on a different server and was also really irritated about the gilseller situation. His suggestion to me, which makes a whole lot of sense, was to bypass
the GMs. They don't hold the power in the game. He suggested we use the POL support system and get EVERYONE we know to send emails complaining about how the gilsellers ruin the game. Think of it as a petition. He said the POL support emails actually go to SE, whereas the GM calls end at the GMs. If we get enough people to send these emails, maybe they will take notice. PLEASE send an email, preferably one every day (even if it's just a copy of the same email each day) to let them know how much we hate these gilsellers. Things you can include in the email:

*Driving AH prices up so noone can afford the gear they need
*MPKing people with their pulls to ensure they can claim the NMs
*Holding ownership of NMs to keep others from getting the item
*Preventing other people from farming items to afford gear they will ACTUALLY USE
*Include any personal stories you can think of (hell, make one up, if you wish) on how these gilsellers ruin the game for you and your friends

You might even want to remind them that World of Warcraft is about to go gold, as well as mentioning the recent release of Everquest 2. If SE believes the gilsellers will cause them to lose more accounts than they are paying for, SE will be forced to do something. Afterall, MONEY is the problem for us, so let's show them that it could turn into THEIR problem, too!

The email support can be found after logging in to POL and selecting Final Fantasy XI. Go into "Service and Support", select Support, then "E-mail support". It will ask you what category you want the email classified as. I suggest putting it in as a "Problem report" to get it some much needed attention. TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS!

hmm... In my opinion what needs to happen is that all rdm/nm mobs rare drop need to be just that Rare, Ordelles would no long have the same 24/7 camping, nm's could no longer be botted endlessly and people would go back to regular farmer where you kill mobs with good drops and grab NM's when their up. Maybe gil sellers would move to something no one cares about... like back to fishing

btw- if someone can find a problem with this solution please let me know, I'm probably overlooking some huge issue it would create

      [04:14] <Cedric> gm told me
      [04:14] <Cedric> they already know
[04:14] <Cedric> but there is nothing that me as a player can do
      [04:14] <Cedric> unless i have concrete proof
      [04:14] <Cedric> and they(square) is working on a solution(bullshit)

pretty much just fuck with the gil sellers till they have outstanding amounts of reports of them trying to mpk players. That's about it.

That's a good idea, but there are several problems to it. You say no one can afford the gear, but the prices keep going up w/ the supply of the items staying low. Thus someone has to be buying it, and gil sellers just keep selling it. Items are only worth what one will pay for them, and if people are willing to pay 800k for a Sniper Ring, then they're worth 800k.

You say you want to try to pretty much threaten SE into getting rid of gil sellers because they may lose business over people leaving. Well, if you don't like it, then actually leave. Don't complain, don't make threats, do it. Gil sellers probably help SE more than you know. People join the game, don't have time to make lots of gil, so they buy it and thus stay in the game. Gil sellers are even more accounts SE gets money from. Those two combined probably adds up to more than the people who would leave because they don't like the price raising on items.

It may sound like most people hate gil sellers/buyers but these boards are a vocal minority as far as I see it. Only a couple hundred people represent each server, and each server has several thousand. They are the silent majority. They either choose to remain out of this because they don't care, or they just are unaware of such places such as this.

If you really want to do something about it, don't complain, actually do something. Go MPK them, go outcamp them w/ alliances of DRGs, BSTs, and SMNs. Otherwise, stop complaining. I agree with you that something needs to be done, but I also know that my character jobs are not high enough in level to do anything about it thus I choose not to partake in something I can't fix. SE is going to ignore it unless something drastic changes like half the people leave the game, and I can fairly confidentaly say that won't happen.

Spuncan, the idea is good for most drops, but things like Archer Rings should be able to be worn as a pair. I can't really think of many other NM and mob drops that drop items that can be used two at a time. And if gilsellers all rushed back to fishing, then you could probably expect as much inflation, just over a longer period of time. Fishing is probably the greatest source of gil on all servers. I dont' mean making people rich, but I mean the act that actually brings gil into the servers. NPCs have unlimited gil, and if gil sellers went back to it (all of them, some still do it) then more gil would be in circulation, thus lowering the value of the gil, and therefore slowly increasing prices.

Oh well, this is what i believe.

Personally I think Rusty Cap fishing prob has done more long term damage than gil sellers... as I can draw a direct line to the massive inflation in the AH to the time when Rusty fishing became a well known gil source. I know ppl who made enough gil with Rusty fishing to lvl both RNG & NIN with top gear and they were late to jump on the band wagon. Obviously SE did something about it... but personally I think the damage has already been done.. now there are alot of ppl out there with millions of gil that they fished via rusty caps and are now lvling their characters with gil to burn. Thus they can afford 800k Sniper Rings etc... I vividly remember when Snipers where 200k a ring a year ago. JP ppl had already had the game for a while yet somehow prices I think were reasonable... so I can only think NA influence had a direct impact on the AH economy.

As for the Gil Seller problem... well I don't think there is a realisitic solution other than trying to prevent MPK practices. For just as in Everquest, SWG, etc... etc... There are lots of players out there who have more money than time... Aka Adults with full time jobs w/ +family in many cases that still like video games (I know this is tough for you 12 year olds out there to imagine) But don't want to spend a month worth of their play time (prob. 3-4 hours atm a day) farming when they could pay for gil with cash value prob == a day a work for several million gil that allow them to level their character without delay via having to stop leveling to farm.

I mean 1 mil gil sells for something like 50 bucks that's about 10 hours flipping burgers at McD's. Most ppl who farm would spend significantly more time than that to gain 1 mil gil.

Lucky for me I have more time (aka college student... grumble I should prob study more ^^) and I don't NEED a Scorp harness or Peacock Charm ^^ so atm I'm not craving millions of gil But for some ppl they need to be the best of the best... and buying gil allows them to get what they want fast ..... for a price XP

Number of rings that give +Accuracy: 2 (Not including HQ's or stupid Lightning Ring)
Number of rings that give +Ranged Accuracy: 9 (Not including HQ's or stupid Lightning Ring)

                (I don't understand.)
