    So basically.. they's saying relations between nations are too friendly, and if war were to break out (foreshadowing? <c c>), it would be a bit of a shock to go from best friends to worst enemies.

    Keep in mind that these are the initial stages in the plot for PvP. Training may just be the beginning <' ';>

    And for those that hate PvP, you have someone to blame now.

    The first scheduled Conflict event will be based on the training exercises of the Royal Knights of San d'Oria.

      Among other disturbing tales, it is rumored that this punishing game was once played with an actual skull....
      For some odd reason, this makes me think that there will be a CTF system, perhaps like the relic system in DAoC, as part of PVP implementation. If that's the case, then there may be some good reason for the nations to be against each other.

                      So yeah, i think just a fun game to play with others, the main site said that there are other games being planned. On page 2 it says:

                      What this could mean is a stamina game where you are attacked repeatedly from afar and try and survive as long as possible to set some sort of record.

                          i think it'll work like that or just temporarily switch your opponents target to you. Whether they'll have to stay targetted on you for awhile or be able to switch back right away i'm not sure. Would still be a pretty useful ability either way.

                              Greetings!

                              This is my first posting on this board! My name is Sage Sundi, head of operation and a part of live team for FFXI. A reason for this posting is to get more idea from overseas, also I would like to prove that live team is focus on global community not just focus on far east.


                              Our development team is currently working on the "Conflict (PvP system)". We are preparing several ways for the "Conflict" to take place. The first event is planned to be like a "Basketball Match".

                              This game was a common sporting event that the San d'Oria Royal Knights engaged in. The match will be held in a normal area instead of a specific arena-like place. We are considering a level limitation/cap for this event. The rewards given to the victors are still undecided.

                              The rules are simple.

                              In a limited time, the players compete with each other by throwing stones into these castle-liked "goals". The team with the highest score wins. As the match is designed for PvP, it will not be an easy task.


                              DETAILS


                              There will be he stones used for the game.

                              The referee will hide the stones before the game starts. The players will have to dig them up, this is where there "sense of digging" will be tested!

                              An icon will be added in the participant's sub menu where they can use to excavate the stones. Players can hold multiple stones at a time, but one will not be able to dig consecutively.

                              If a player is attacked while digging, the digging motion will stop and the dig will be nullified. If a player dies, all the stones that he possesses will be lost.



                              THE GOAL


                              In order to score, the players will have to throw the stones into these castle-liked "goals". This can be accomplished in two ways:

                              By obtaining the rights to "break the gate".
                              *"break the gate" rights can be obtained by defeating an opponent. Even if you defeat more than one opponent, only one "break the gate" right can be obtained at any given time.


                              When the castle gate randomly opens


                              If you use the first method, you will have to fight other players to obtain the rights to score. Players are allowed to leave the competing area and they will NOT be disqualified, but if all the players from the same team leaves the area, their castle-liked "goals" will become unguarded, giving the opponents a chance to score.

                              The goals have been created to spawn randomly. Depending on the of participants, the number of goals and the position they will pop up will differ.



                              PLAYER ABILITY


                              Players who participate in the "Conflict" will be given a special ability when they are in possession of a stone. A message window will pop up, telling the player the distance and the direction of the nearest goal.

                              If the player does not have a stone, they will have the ability to increase their speed for a limited time. This ability cannot be used consecutively.



                              OTHER RULES


                              If you are slain, you can choose to be revived on the spot, or be revived from a further out position. If you choose to be revived on the spot, there will be a time penalty before you can engage in the "Conflict" and depending on the number of times you have died, the revival time will vary greatly.

                              If you choose to be revived from a further out position, you will be able to get back into the game right away and any prior penalties will be reseted.

                              In the "Conflict", your HP and MP will be in full status when you are revived and no penalties will be taken.




                              The above are the details we have at this current stage. Please feel free to comment and send in ideas that you think might improve this event. The basic rules will be hard to change, but we will try our best to improve and adjust gradually.

                              This news only gives you only a part of the "Conflict", so keep your eyes open for new details in the near future!
