  • I need help, and information regarding AF quests

I'm just kinda confused about a few things. I know what all the quests are, i'm a samurai, so I'm naturally going for samurai AF quests. I've gotten AF1 so far, and I still got a while yet before I'll be ready to take on other AF quests, but I'd like to sort this out before hand.

Well, for example, most of you probably know that alot of the AF equipment, well some of the different armor is higher than others. Example: samurai AF3 is lv60 helmet, but every AF after 3 is below lv60, even the coffers. Can you do AFs out of order? and if so how is this accomplished? (specific samurai detail appreciated)

Also, another question, what exactly are coffers? what does it mean? I've heard people talk about them, and someone even said something to me about having to accept the quests for previous AFs before getting coffer quests. i'm still not sure how this is accomplished. Please feel free to be detailed. Thanks

For starters, get the idea of AF4, 5, 6 out of your head. There is no such thing. Those are just vague terms to refer to the other AFs that aren't gained through actual "AF" quests. I seriously wish people would stop using these terms cause it confuses people too much.

Here it is, plain and simple: there are only 3 "AF" quests. AF1 is *always* your weapon. Its quest can be accepted at lvl40. Once you reach lv50 (supposing you finished AF1), you are allowed to accept AF2 which is an armor piece. When you've completed AF2, you can accept AF3 (which is also an armor piece). AF3 IS NOT ALWAYS the highest piece of equipment. In many cases it is, but sometimes it just isn't. Same thing goes with AF2. Many say it's the lowest piece of equipment, but that's not just the case for every job.

Now, for the other AFs. They don't have an "AF" quest. Instead once you have *accepted* AF2 (don't have to finish it) you can accpet the Lost Arm of Bolghertz quest from Guslam (the exact name of the quest is different depending on job on the NA version). This involves getting a key item from a coffer, talking to a few NPCs, killing an NM called Dark Spark, and then ultimate collecting your AF gloves. This quest *always* gives you your gloves, but the level of the gloves is not the same for every job.

When you have the Bolghertz quest accepted, you are allowed to open the other two coffers which contain your last pieces of armor. In order to pick them up, you HAVE to use that specific job. The only situation where this rule does not apply is if you have to get a key item from a coffer such as Bolghertz or PLD AF3 quest. If you want to get your Samurai body piece, you HAVE to open Uggalepih coffer as a Samurai.

There is no set level needed to complete the quests (only to accept). You can open your AF coffers in any order (granted you accepted the Bolghertz quest). AF quests have to be accepted by that specific job, but if you have a higher level job you can use that in the actual questing process.

If any of this sounds confusing, tough shit....read it again.

EDIT: Forgot about that last paragraph. Coffers are sort of like beefed up Treasure Chests. Keys are dropped by harder monsters and they are located in more difficult areas. They tend to have more rewarding items and more penalties if you pick the lock and fail (I should know). Also, the ONLY way to open a job's AF coffers is to have their Bolghertz quest open. Mind you, each Bolghertz quest is counted for that job only. So having the quest open for one doesn't mean you can open the coffers for all other jobs. Having said that, you must complete one job's Bolghertz quest before you can accept another's, and therefore being able to open the new coffers.
