Black screen freeze on PS2

First of all I'm playing on Japanese PS2. Lately, I've been getting the black screen freeze more and more. It usually happens as I'm changing areas. My TV screen goes black and will not do anything. I turn off the PS2 and reboot, but it still remains a balck screen. My storage character works. GMs are completly useless since all they say is re-install the game.

Well, in the last week and a half, I have re-installed the game 4 times! Every time I re-install, I also lose all my macros. Anyone else have this PS2 problem? I'm getting really tired of long re-install, re-doing macros, and repeapt from the top.

ya i happens sometimes, for PS2. happens mostly in jueno and when my char is doing nothing. just re-boot it

got another problem for another ps2 set, alway 100% d/c when fighting pots. not sure anyone have this problem too.

I think re-installing will help, but will take a few tries to get 'proper re-installation'

Happened to me about 6 times now, It occurs because of the setting when you log out inproperly or get dced alot. It really screws up your setting after a while when this occurs. First time the problem happened to me was when I was typing in Jp by mistake, typed the word "and" hit space bar to make it in big english characters to correct my mistake and My screen came up blank. Reason it happened was because I did not have those characters avaliable in my database, best thing to do is go into POL and re-config your mail and keyboard settings.

I'll have to give it a try tonight. Reconfigure mail and kbd settings huh?! Apoc, did ur DC happen when you were changing areas as well? For me, DC happened 4 times while traveling through Saramouge, once in Torai Marai (area change), and most recently going from North Sands to South Sands (area change). Like I mentioned before, my storage character is unaffected.


Deli, I have re-installed FFXI and Jiraat about 6 times now (4 recently). My problem is not congestion DC. Once I'm DCed, I'm unable to log back on with my main character unless I re-install. Not only is this a time consuming process, but you lose all your macros (RDM, BLM, SMN, THF...) and markings on your map.

I'm just afraid that I may have to reformat my HDD and start new. And if that doesn't work, get a new HDD. And if that doesn't work, get a new PS2.

that happens occasionally to me; at one time i got kicked off FFXI and back into POL and when trying to go back to the game, an error message, "Memory Error" appears. Maybe it is the memory rather than the HD.

that happened to me a few times but almost everytime it appears to be the ISP's or the firewall/router's fault. You might want to reset your router and/or modem everytime before you log on, also, avoid using Low-Jeuno as HP.

Hey all thanks for the advice, but it is not ISP or memory. My storage character can get on just fine everytime. I also get no memory error. I know what that's like since I've had that happen to me as well.

It goes like this. I change area. It turns balck as usual, but it stays black. When I don't see any changes for about 10~20 minutes. I turn my PS2 off and log back on. When I select the character I was stuck on, I get a balck screen and the music from the character select screen. I repeat the process about 10 times to no avail. Meanwhile, I can log into my Storage character just fine. I give it a day thinking it may come back on. It doesn't. I wait a 2nd day. It's the same. I give up and re-install. I play until it happens to me again:mad:

GMs are completly worthless. All they say is re-install. When I said I have several times, he tells me to call the hotline. When I ask for the number, he says look it up in POL. This Japanese GM was rude and worthless:mad:

BSODs pwn.

I've gotten it too (didn't keep count), and got that same memory error crap. I have to turn the PS2 off to get rid of it or it won't login to FFXI ever.

Still, this doesn't happen as often as Windows Errors and other bullshit that comes with PCs :p

Each time you re-installed, was it installed on a totally formatted HDD?

Tomoh, Happens to me usually around the sandoria Region, When zoning from Wron to latheine and valkurm to selbina. Screen just goes pitch black the music will still play (Sometimes.) Once I restart my PS2 and re-config it seems to go away for a while last problem was about 2 months ago.

Hmm. Most likely when you crashed and tried to log back in, your main char is still stuck in game, usually it takes about 10 mins or so and then should be able to log in again. Strange that its shut out for days though... doesn't that sound more like a problem on the server side?

well, i think all PS2 have similar problems, but at diff. situations, like me, i get black screen most in freakin Yhoarter Jungle <or what ever is call but u know what i mean so is good> then other then that area (usually) i dont got blackscreen(jeez.....)
