Teejay, don't even try to pull the "EQ is harder" bit. lmao, how about "no". Raids in EQ are boring as hell with a few exceptions in Luclin. Only in PoP and beyond were raids anything but turn on autoattack and go make popcorn for 50% of the players. The rest blast / dot / debuff regularly... concussion if ya got it (I'm talking about you, Wizzies)... set up a heal chain (CH chain isn't really applicable anymore) and you're golden.
A few of the earlier fights like Aaryonar actually required a little strategy (duck behind the wall, jump back out, cast CH, jump back behind the wall)... but honestly, the level of coordination amongst the raiders in EQ is zilch compared to the coordination you need for even a mid-range REGULAR battle in FF XI. Raids in EQ finally got a little interesting toward the end of PoP. Oh well, too bad the content itself sucked donkey with no coherent plot or reason to tie it all together.
Strange how the lore and content have gotten progressively worse as the game's gone on. And yes, I've been at the high end of EQ. I don't play anymore... retired my 65 Ranger on Lanys earlier this year. The game isn't worthless, but the broad range of EQ's content and encounters are mind-numbingly boring. Even today, raids don't have too much real coordination to them. Even the Rallos Zek fight isn't so bad... and it's probably the single most cluster ****ed fight in the game. Just assign kiters for the million adds, smack RZ down, woot you are teh winnar.
And did you even mention epic quests as being difficult?
Even back in the day when they were first released in Kunark, the only epic that was "hard" was any epic that took you to the end of Sky... such as the Magician's Epic. The rest of them had a couple decently rough battles, but that was more a question of having the numbers / levels and zerging the monster (such as Trak), not any coherent battle plan.
Got a carbuncles ruby on my very first leech kill...
...
Got an almost entire alliance of level 60+ ENGLISH speaking player to help me own the Warrior AF1. That was quite a sight, but not much of an achievment.
