Genkai 5

I beat Maat tonight on my fifth attempt and in my opinion Genkai 5 is the biggest pile of bullshit ever. I didn't feel challenged in my job in the least, the only thing that matters for Genkai 5 is money, patience, time and luck. I had more than enough money to buy what I needed to pass this and lots of very good friends willing to give up their time to help me hunt papers - many others will not. It's sad that a huge portion of beating Maat is based on luck and not your personal skill. When I beat him he only used one weapon skill, ‹ó–ÂŒ?/Howling Fist, and it somehow completely missed me. Previous attempts to fight him got my ass kicked because luck wasn't on my side and he ‘o—³‹r/Dragon Kick me in one hit. Bleh, at least it is over now but no one should have to go through this. Only someone who has lost to him a few times then finally beats him will know the relief you feel when he says "That was a might fine display of skill there. You've come a long way..."

He gave up when I used an Echo Screen.... why, I don't know. Maybe it's based on some kind of point system for White Mage and every type of curing you do goes towards the necessary score. I used my Icarus Wing to Hexastrike his Stoneskin off if that's of any significance.

I can see how this is frustrating when there is no real pattern to winning. :-/

Just gotta say..

After the RDM fix, I logged in and damned if it wasn't 05:00 on a wind day the second I got into the actual game after downloading the patch. So, no time to overthink strategy, just run upstairs to Rulude and go go go.

I had already gathered all my stuff the night before so I'd be ready to go in case something like this happened, so I had everything on me I'd be using. I used a chief kabob for food after reading Oro's post (of course I had used this the last 6 tries too so by now I was REALLY questioning whether rollanberry pie was truly the way to go). I also brought in 4 hi ethers, 2 ethers, 4 hi potions, 3 yagudo drinks, 1 vile elixr, 1 vile elixr +1, and a reraise scroll.

So I charged in with both feet. Didn't really know what to expect, so I decided to just fight him EXACTLY the same way I did last time when I ddi 2722 damage and still lost. First cast pro4, shell4, refresh, stoneskin, phalanx, blink, aquaviel, shockspike, haste, used reraise scroll. Once all the spells were cast, I didn't wanna wait around to regain MP, since I had timed out on my last attempt. Used 2 hi-ethers, then rested for the remaining MP.

Charged Maat.. Took out sword.. Diaga, removed blink.. Dispel, paralyze, dispel, slow, dispel.. Ready to rock by now. Keeping stoneskin on (I know Oro opted for blink, and I was trying to keep that on when possible too, but stoneskin was my poison of choice) all the while. Kept at him long enough to get off a Spirits Within.

Now I don't have a log of precisely what happened and what order I cast spells in, but this is my estimation. Keep in mind this part of the battle happened incredibly quickly.

Used SP. Air3, Air3, Air3, stoneskin's gone, stoneskin, use vile elixr, air3, air3, stoneskin, convert, cure4, cure4, air3, air3, stoneskin, SP over, vile exlir +1, Air3, stoneskin, whack whack whack, Cure3, Air3..

I don't know the exact number of air3's I used.. What I do know is, I was certain I was going to lose again. I had 200 HP left and a little over 100 MP. I decided, screw it, I'ma throw one last Air3 on him. Did that. Next thing I knew, I was outside the BC and it said 6 mins 32 secs on my screen.. Which was the new record, as no other RDMs had yet attempted it after the patch.

Like an idiot, I had forgotten I had a dezone scroll in my MH, so I had to wait for Bio to wear off so I could rest so I could get MP for dezone. If I hadn't had a BLM SJ, I would have had to walk back to bastok like a sucker. The whole time, I was honest-to-god almost in tears.. Because it was finally OVER! And after I got back to town, finished the little event with Maat and saw the screen that said blah blah blah Leve 75.. I just started shaking. I don't even wanna talk about what happened a couple days later when I got to level 71 finally.. Heh.

My observations of the new Maat vs. the old Maat:

I had plenty of opprtunity to observe the old Maat, as I estimate (lost count but can estimate still) my pre-patch total as 23 losses and 2 timeouts. It was, without a doubt, like fighting a level 71 RDM with a level 70 MNK SJ. New Maat was very much the same. They set his level at 70 instead of 71 as far as I can tell, because he did not use fire3 on me this time. They definately lowered his hitpoints, no question about that. His bar was lower when I did 2563 damage to him after the patch than it was when I did 2722 damage to him prior to the patch. He did NOT use a WS against me this battle, but I think that was more luck than anything. I had attempts prior to the patch when he never used a WS also. He still hits just as hard as he ever did. He's still ruthless with spells (just that they no longer include fire3). He still casts stoneskin, blink, haste, aquaviel, etc etc on himself. He's the same old Maat. He's just gone out and gotten himself leveled down to 70 and changed up his gear so he has less HP. ^^

One last thing I will say for any RDMs still looking for tips: tazarai, who also happens to be a level 68 RDM in my LS, offered the suggestion of using aquaveil when he found out that I hadn't been using it. He hadn't yet attempted Maat at this point, but told me that it had helped him out in a lot of very difficult battles in the past. So, although I never really thought aquaveil was useful, I thought, well what could I POSSIBLY have to lose? And tried it. I swear by aquaveil now for difficult battles. I was having so much trouble before I started using it, trying to keep stoneskin on because he'd hit me halfway through casting and my spell would fail. With aquaveil on, that old man could kick, punch, scratch, bite, whatever while I was casting and stoneskin would STILL CAST. Same with any other spells I was trying to use. So RDMs, aquaveil is terribly important for this battle. Probably for WHMs too, but I couldn't say for sure.

I wasnt so lucky as SharMarali. Right after the RDM patch I went in and tried to beat Maat. This time I used the technique, start the fight with Chainspell. Note that all the fight before this I fought Maat with sword one on one, which made me always lose where I had to use SP to cure myself,.

Using Chainspell right when I start, I managed to land 5 aero3 when Maat started his Chainspell. Then I started to chain blink and stoneskin but then I used all my MP so I converted.......there Maat got me when he hit me by 87 StoneIII and my life was 18 ..... ;

That was my 11th fight, 4 fight after that I still lose with the same cause ...dying when I converted. The second last fight, my Convert macro failed.

So today, I won after 15 fight. The fight didnt start good as Maat resisted Sleep2 (I always Sleep2>dispel>para>dispel till his ShellIV gone) but I started Chainspell as usual spam AeroIII and made him to half HP, converted and more AeroIII. Note that I do stoneskin+blink when its gone since he started his SP at half HP. Now he is at 1/4 HP and I ran out of MP. Used Vile Elixer+1 then blasted 2 more Aero 3 then I won.

Result : 8 Aero 3 1 missed because of his blink (forgot to cast Diaga) . Each Aero3 made 343 damage so about 2400+ damage

Starting Chainspell on the start of the fight is recomended for RDM with a lot of MP and to win make sure you bring a Vile Elixer, Vile Elixer+1 for the best effect. I won with 1 Rolanberyy, 1 Vampire Juice and 1 Vile Elixer+1. With timing and some luck you can win without Maat doing any WS. The only damage you receive is from his SP

P/s Started the fight with Blink, Stoneskin, Aquaveil, Phalanx and the fight is on fireday (since Maat cant cast Fire 3 anymore now)
