  • HNM FAQ/Strategy/Pop Time

    Hi all~.

    As I get past lv60 and move toward lv70, I plan to challenge some JP HNM LSs and hunt some of HNMS, hopefully, with all-importer PT/alliances.

    Hunting HNMs, regardless of their drops (which could instantly make you a millionaire), I think is one of the true gems of this game, in terms of teamwork, PT strategy, and individual and group effort involved.

    As most of you know, 3-day HNMS pop EXACTLY 60-72 hours after its last pop. Let me repeat that again. It pops EXACTLY 60-72 hours after its last pop. That means, after determining when the last HNM popped, people interested in fighting need to camp for up to 12 hours. (With some luck, it can be only 1-3 hour wait, or it could be 10-12 hour wait).

    This thread is not to solicit or organize HNM outing (at least not now), but it would be truly helpful if people could post their latest sighting/info on some of these HNMs, so we can determine when the last pop time was on a paricular server.

    And without further adue, below I list some detailed info on some of these HNMs, to be updated regularly in the future as I gather more information. Most of these info have been provided to me by a friend in korean LS in Lakshami server (as I have no personal experience in fighting any of these :sweat: ), So in addition to providing the current market cost for these items in Ragnarok server, I could appreciate if people could post tips/strategies on fighting these HNMS. Thanks!

    Happy hunting everyone!

    HNM FAQ #1: Behemoth

    Level: 70
    Sensor: Vision
    Job: n/a
    Elemental Weakness: Earth
    Title Earned: Behemoth Bane (ƒxƒqƒ‚ƒXƒx?[ƒ“)

    Comment:

    Surely one of the most famous HMS, Behemoth was the strongest HNM in the lv55-cap era. In the lv55-cap era, just about the only attack that worked against it was PLD's Spirits Within, but with the current level cap of 70, this fight has become MUCH easier.

    Like the rank3 dragon, Behemoth's attack can reach both front and back, regardless of where it is looking. (So the mages must stand on Behemoth's right or left side)

    Its special attack include:

    Brave Cry(?) - —Y‹©‚Ñ - same effect as Warcry
    Shockwave - straight-line damage, pushes target back
    Flame Armor - same effect as Blaze Spike
    Thunder Bolt - Area damage plus stun effect
    Wild Horn - Big damage on target

    Dispel should be used to cancel both brave cry and flame armor, and mages should stand together on Behemoth's side - which also makes bard's job easier.

    Thunder Bolt and Wild Horn can cause some serious damage, but because of the increased level gap, they are not as deadly as they used to be.

    Thunder Elemental and Light Elementals that frequently pop around the area react to lv60 or below, so the frontliners must take care of things quickly if the elementals appear.

    - a good spear for war/sam/drg, falling between ‰¤—§‹RŽm’c?§Ž®‹R‘„ and ƒpƒ‹ƒ`ƒUƒ“

    - Current AH Price: 60k (Lakshami) __ (Ragnarok)

    * ƒRƒ?ƒbƒgƒeƒCƒ‹ (boomerang) D26 Šu265 HP+15 MP+15 ‘ÏŒõ+4 ‘ψÅ+4 ”ò–½+10 ”ò?U+20 Lv55?` ?íƒVŽë

    - has ultra-low drop rate - note the +15 in BOTH HP and MP - dream side-arm for wars and thieves - unfortuantely, not useful for ranger despite its godly air accuracy/attack stats;;.

    - Current AH Price: 2.5 million (Lakshami) __ (Ragnarok)

    * ƒxƒq?[ƒ‚ƒX‚Ì–Ñ”ç

    - Behemoth Skin - drop rate is about 90%. This is the material used to make Behemoth Cape and the ultra rare armor Bani.

    - Current AH Price: 1.5 million (Lakshami) ___ (Ragnarok)

    - Item created from Behemoth Skin -

    * ƒo?[ƒj?[ (“·) –h46 HP+25 STR+3 DEX-3 VIT+3 AGI-3 INT-3 MND-3 CHR-3 ?U+20 Lv60?` ?íƒiˆÃ?bŽ˜”E

    A great armor for tanks and frontliners - but its -3 DEX devalues this armor somewhat in the age when accuracy is everything. Attack+20 effect really shows when fighting weaker enemies. Due to its increase in HP and VIT, a more suitable post-AF armor for tanks than Hober. The appearance is liked by some, hated by others.

    - Current AH Price: 2.1 million (Lakshami) ____ (Ragnarok)

    * ƒxƒqƒ‚ƒXƒ}ƒ“ƒg(”w) –h12 HP+20 ?U+5 Lv60?` ?탂?ÔƒVƒiˆÃ?b‹áŽëŽ˜”E—³

    Overall, perhaps the best cape in the game for frontliners (although rank6 kingdom capes will do just fine). Obviously, the dream cape for paladins.

    - Current AH Price: 1.7 million (Lakshami) ____ (Ragnarok)

      HNM FAQ #2: Serket

      Level: 70
      Sensor: Sound
      Job: n/a
      Elemental Weakness: Ice
      Title Earned: Serket Breaker

      Comment:

      Giant Scorpion HNM in Garliage added with the first AFs in Nov. 2002.

      Its special attack include:

      Aversion - Evade rate up
      Venom Breath - poison attack on target
      Venom Stomp - area poison attack
      Venom Sting - big damage + poison
      Statsis - paralysis
      Bindga - area bind
      Earth Breaker - big area damage

      A very powerful monster, but with relatively lower defense, allowing some good attack. Almost everything is poisonous, so antidote is a must. (Serker's poision is lethal). The fight location is also important. When there are no level-up pts around, the fight should be done in the tunnel or near the stairways - if there are level-up pts around, the fight should be done in the middle of the large underground area. The frontliners should gather TP from the beetles and bats nearby before and during the fight. (Make sure lower level mages do not aggro these)

      Serkert's most powerful attack, Earth Breaker, is truly deadly, so the frontliners must not give Serket too much TP. This means no mutli-hit WS such as Dancing Edge, Gullitone, etc. - but use shark vite, cross riper, and SpritsWithin instead (the single most effective WS against HNMs - some even recommend that ALL frontliners go with 1h sword).

      Mages should of course have blink and stoneskin on at all times (Serket's bindga will nullify these, so make sure you cast them again!) Frontliners hit with Stasis should be cured with parana immediately.

      - Tripple Dagger is relatively a low-rate drop, and is more for collection purposes rather than being used as an actual weapon. But its unique design gives it some value.

      - Current AH Price: 350k (Lakshami) ___ (Ragnarok)

      * ƒZƒ‹ƒPƒgƒŠƒ“ƒO Rare (Ring) –h3 50HP‚ðMP‚É•ÏŠ· Lv51?` All Jobs

      - The greatest MP boost ring for mages in the game (and even 3 def added in!). (Our very own Hikarisno is a proud wearer of this ultimate jewel~).

      * ƒZƒ‹ƒPƒgƒV?[ƒ‹ƒh Rare (shield) –h12 ‘Ï•X-5 Lv51?` ?í”’?ÔƒVƒi?bŽ˜

      - A symbol of wealth for rich thieves before Strike Shield came out, and a good shield for white mages before they could get Astral Shield. Price is genearlly on the decline for this shield.

      - Current AH Price: 150k (Lakshami) ___ (Ragnarok)

      * Œ€“ŃTƒ\ƒŠ‚Ì’Ü

      - maybe THE reason why so many HNM LSs hunt Serket - this is the material required to make the dreamy Scorpion Harness.

      - the famous post-AF armor created by the above item. This is a dream armor for monk and dragoons. And one of the most expensive items on all servers.

        HNM FAQ #3: Capricious Cassie

        Level: 70
        Sensor: Sound
        Job: n/a
        Elemental Weakness: Fire
        Title Earned: Casanova

        Comment:

        The most powerful HNM before Ziraat Expansion. Even though it falls under the "old" HNM now, this monster is not to be taken lightly.

        As a Marlboro-type HNM, this monster retains all marlboro's characteristics. Super fast rate of attack (no delay), combined with frequent double attacks. Also uses two kinds of breath attacks ("Sweet Breath" and "Bad Breath"). How the alliance deals with the effect of its breath attack will determine the outcome of the battle.

        Required items: Backliners (2 dozens of remedy to cure silence) Frontlines (1 dozen of poision - to prevent sleep)

        Its special attack include:

        Tentacle Poke "Kushijasi" - damage + poision + hate reset (the target will shift to another player)
        Absorb Tentacle - absorbs big amount of HP or TP (random)
        Sweet Breath "Amaiiki" - big area damage + sleep + hate reset
        Bad Breath "Kusaiiiki" - big area damage + all kinds of status effects (posion + paralysis + silence + slow + bind + heavy)

        Due to hate reset, no one should ever touch CC in any circumstance except the designated tanks. Its breath attack followed by another breath attack is enough to completely wipe out a lv70 PT.

        Because of its weakness to fire, lv3 fire renkei combined with fire MB (even Flare MB) is preferred. (Flare MB results in 1200-1400 damage).

        Backliners must keep casting slow and slow-enducing songs to reduce the speed of CC's rapid attacks.

        When CC does its "Sweet Breath" Attack, everyone will fall sleep and hate will be reset. This means, more than likely, the target will be shifted toward mages as they try to cure frontliners. To prevent this, at least one frontliner should eat poison and taunt away the monster.

        CC's "Bad Breath" can cause big wave of panic, but two status effects that you should really worrty about is slience and paraylsis. Everything else can be ignored. Once Bad Breath hits, you must immediately eat remedy to cure silence and cast parana on frontliners. A canceled taunt or cure due to paralysis could mean the different between victory and death. Poision doesnt need to be cured at all (to prevent future sleep), unless HP is too low.

        - the sought-after cape that reduces hate by 3. If anyone knows the great effect of peace ring (hate -1), then you can imagine how great of an effect hate-3 will have. Essential item to have for bards and mages in HNMs and BCNMs fights, when their hate is great.

        This also makes Peace cape: *ƒs?[ƒXƒP?[ƒv (cape) “G‘Î?S-4 Lv66?` ”’?•?Ô‹á?¢

          Although, I would like to hunt HNM which i could, there isnt enough importers that would do an HNM ls or have enough class mixtures to be able to do an HNM ls on ragnarock. Plus there are many importers known to be in HNM lses on ragnarock. Butter if you are going to do an HNM ls i will join but I am not too sure if there is enough people to do a well formed LS. Already importers have moved on to HNM ls such as MB, SC, and BluesNet. There just isnt enought importers to create such an ls. Thats why many importers looked to going to a jp ls.

            Try Cemetry Cherry first, it is one day pop HNM. Title: Mon-Cheri. Not many hunt it cos it drops lousy stuff. And is as hard as Serket. Use it for practice^^

              i can't give total info like did but i know

              King Arthro - King of Crabs
              Element: Water
              Level: ???? (LV65 probably)

              Drops
              +6% Haste Belt
              Skins needed to make Vermilion cloak
              ????

              Probably the least stressful to hunt of 3 day POP NMs. Just before Arthro appears, 12-15 Knight Crabs will appear over the area. After all are dead, then the King will appear.

              You need to go through ransperry tombs to get to the POP area. Bring fishing gear.

              Other small notes:
              Roc
              - Can use WHM 2H.
              - Can use G-Lullaby.
              - Wind Elemental
              - Drops Damaska Ingot (spelt wrong?), Healer Rod, 1H Sword (MP+10 INT+5)
              - You need to go through garliage to get to this HNM.

              Serket
              - Unlike what the NMM map might say, it can POP where the tomb mages and magic pots are (not where the ghosts are).

                    Just like to mention that since the last patch HNM pop time now starts 3 hours from death. So the closer it gets to death time the greater possibility of popping.

                        I know this is and old topic but since its already up near the top I have a question

                        For each HNM listed how many 65's would it take to kill or 70's.. Id really appreciate the info. Just put Serket - 65 (#) 70 (#) , CC - (#) 70 (#) or something - Thanks in advance.
