  • Well, I wasn't expecting *that* kind of reply...

Not sure how I can *prove* to you what my system specs are, Tsikuro. Those were the numbers I got. If you look on an earlier page of this poll, you'll find the scores I got after overclocking:

    Athlon XP 1600+ O/C to 1470 MHz (1700+)

    Average score (3949)

    Athlon XP 1600+ NON O/C
    Radeon 9000 Pro 64MB (mem 275/core 300)
    (defaults are 250/274)

    Average score (4064)

    Athlon XP 1600+ @ 1470
    Radeon 9000 Pro @ 294/284 (core/mem)

    Average score (4101)

Hope I didn't put you off your lunch! :p

    Take that! :spin:

    • Velusip, I must admit that you may be right about DX9...I ran those tests before upgrading to 9.0a.

      Just ran the benchmark again...

      In the background:

      MSN Messenger
      DSL connection
      NAV 2003
      MSI PC Alert 4

      Score ~3500

Unless PC Alert 4 is the factor, these numbers are ~200 less than I was getting before.

My point still stands RE: babaji's setup, though.

      Take that! :spin:

I am not sure what your argument was considering you fully supported my statement with that last post...

As I was stating problems with the WinXP RAM accessing issues and you compared your system also running WinXP?
        I am confused.

        • Velusip,

What I was trying to say is that:
          =======================================
          Atleast two reasons:

Win XP uses some strange encrypted memory allocating technique that slows any computer down.

DirectX 9.0 is much slower than 8.1

Just upgrade ( and I do mean upgrade ) to Windows 2k.
          =======================================

This doesn't account for the magnitude by which his score is too low for his hardware setup...(barely over 3000 vs somewhere in the neighborhood of 5000+ from what I've seen elsewhere).

So I gave the example of my system (with XP as well), having much lower specs getting a higher score than he did.

Though I now admit you may be right about DX9 being slower, once again, it is not a matter of ~2000 points on the benchmark, but ~200 for me. Even after the upgrade to DX9a, my scores were still ~500 points higher than his.

Something is amiss in his system! The question is what.

          Take that! :spin:

          • okay.

In any case, I am sure it would only take five minutes to clean and optimize the system, ignoring reboot tymes.

              Ram: Infineon 512mb PC2700 DDR

              • Athlon XP 1700+ @ 2.45ghz (performs at around 3500+)
                2x256mb corsair xms 3500 @ 5-2-2-2 timings, 225 fsb (450)
                Radeon 9700 pro sliiiiightly overclocked
                120gb WD 8mb cache hdd

I score 6890 in the benchmark

edit: i'll break 7000 once I've finished my downloads

                • That is wickedly awesome...

I am still stuck at installing the software of course... I just get language errors.

new high of 7142, did this without rebooting to overclock more

                    proof:

guess I'll have to beat 7500 once my downloads are finished

I would highly recommend you purchase a motherboard with agp8x support though. If you are having trouble finding one that will support all the other hardware you currently have you can often ask service in a computer store, they are paid to help you... and if you want to order online I might be albe to help you ( just PM me )

Mind you, replacing a motherboard is a real pain.

                            • yeah, and tbh 8x agp doesn't really affect speed that much, in fact it's hardly noticable

agp 4x isn't really used so 8x is a bit useless atm

Yeah actually, considering that agp8x is about all the transfer speed humans will need for quite a while, you are right. 4x should do just fine. If you think about it, the agb is only xfering textures and simple commands ( quickly, no doubt ) so it is all up to the gpu's core to do the rest. And if you have an ATI9700Pro working there, the show is pleasant.

I pray that this game will have multi viewport support so that a Matrox Parhelia with tripple monitors will work properly.
