Yeah, but for you to fall into the power gamer category, you over THINK everything that would put you into the category. So I'd say thinker as dominant, power gamner as second. But your thinking is dominant of your power gaming tendencies. Or in other words, your doing all the thinking to put yourself into the power gamer category, but the thinking is what gets you there, thus more dominant. My thinking anyways...

I dont think you guys are understanding the system. Each of you has a score between 1 and 10 in ALL 8 categories. Whether you score high or low in each of them is a matter of opinion and casual observation.

Scoring isn't to determine your aptitude with the game... but rather... to find out what KIND of a player you are.

Between the 4 of you, we have nearly all the bases covered... with each of you leaning towards one type or another. As a point of observational reference... take care to watch the way Adam plays his Monk this saturday. In the games I've player with him in the past, I know him to be scored as follows:

4 Actor
4 Explorer
7 Instigator
8 Power Gamer
6 Slayer
3 Storyteller
3 Thinker
1 Watcher

You'll see what I mean.

I understand it, but I wasn't clear in my posts. I meant that I expected Power Gamer to be my most prominent category as perceived by you guys. For instance, I chose the Guisarme for its strategic value, not any sort of personal preference or roleplaying reason.

What exactly constitutes a "Thinker?" I'm not exactly comfortable with Mezlo's definition since it seems obvious that to Power Game I must first consider every angle. I figured a Thinker was kind of the opposite of a Slayer, which I assume is the type of player that wants to solve every problem with violence.

I understand it as well. All I was doing was picking out which was the dominant role for each individual in my own personal opinion.

Apart from letting you guys know what kind of player Adam is... i have no intention of letting any of you know how you score.

A thinker is any player who breaks down an encounter... be it a fight, NPC interation or skills challenge... and diagnoses rather than diving head-first into it. On the lesser scale... it's someone who considers their options and is careful. On the more extreme and high numbers... its someone who hampers progress in order to ensure the best possible results.

A thinker is more likely to use guile... or to notice and engage in intrigue.

But the same can be said for an actor. It's really just the nuances in behavior that determine the result.

In regards to the questions I've asked thus far... and the answers you guys have given me... I just want to clarify something real quick.

Don't be afraid to be creative and make a lot of stuff up. I'm all about creative expression... and I really don't mind re-thinking the world to include some kind of wonky, personal-touch location or organization.

When I ask if you were a member of an organization... I was looking for (but I guess I didn't specify) creative responses.

Before joining the Clerics... Armando's character could have been a recloose who ran off to join a small circus troupe before finding his faith and giving himself unto the Clergy.

Lili could have been an exotic dancer at a brothel in a smaller city... where she learned that flaunting her body afforded her the perfect distraction where-by she could easily pickpocket the brothel customers. Soon she realized that she could make more money doing that... than dancing legitimately. From this, she escalated to a life of crime and moved to another... larger city.

Mezlo has specified that he hates other magic users... or is at least suspicious of them. It makes sense to err on the side of caution in a world where magic is scarce and largely unknown... but maybe... just maybe... there was something more to it than that. Maybe when he was a child, he was tormented by another boy in town who would use his simple cantrips to bully Mezlo from time to time. Maybe that fear and frustration boiled over into hatred and suspision as he learned that he too had similar power laying dormant within himself.

Cid... what if you have been secretly designing a machine capable of flight... and have resorted to a selfish life of crime to finance the final stages of development. Perhaps your quiet and reserved nature is only what you show on the surface... but deep inside, you're an engineering genious who is building the world's first airship in a small underground studio that noone knows about?

It's an example... I'm not handing you a background.

I'm simply suggesting that you guys get creative and have fun with your character. Get into it... make it funny/crazy/vrysrsbsns/mysterious... anything you want. I'll work with whatever ideas you throw at me... just try not to make them too far-fetched. I don't need any of you telling me that you used to own and operate a slaving company in the valley and that you only employed half-dragon enforcers.

That kind of stuff is... creative... but not at all plausible.

So says the guy that scoffed at me when I said I wanted to be a flying, arrow proof mage or destruction, raining down bolts by the boat load onto my enemies as I fly overhead... Pick a stance and keep it, none of this flip flopping BS...
