  • Re: D&D

Order of operations - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There exist differing conventions concerning the unary operator − (usually read "minus"). In written or printed mathematics, the expression −3² is interpreted to mean −(3²) = −9, but in some applications and programming languages, notably the application Microsoft Office Excel and the programming language bc, unary operators have a higher priority than binary operators, that is, the unary minus (negation) has higher precedence than exponentiation, so in those languages −3² will be interpreted as (−3)² = 9. In cases where there is the possibility that the notation might be misinterpreted, parentheses are usually used to clarify the intended meaning.
    So which is it?

You know, I actually don't remember anything about the power series (or any other series, besides the definition of one) so I'm gonna need a day to break out the ol' algebra spell calculus book.

            Hey Yyg, according to Wikipedia...
In mathematics, a power series (in one variable) is an infinite series of the form

where an represents the coefficient of the nth term, c is a constant, and x varies around c (for this reason one sometimes speaks of the series as being centered at c). This series usually arises as the Taylor series of some known function; the Taylor series article contains many examples.

In many situations c is equal to zero, for instance when considering a Maclaurin series. In such cases, the power series takes the simpler form

            .
When you say about x=0 in your exercise, do you mean c=0?

EDIT: Also, a power series seems to be ANY series of the form given by Wikipedia, of which there are many. Are you asking me to calculate a Taylor or McLaurin series specifically?

I don't like the correlation between "well-read" and "mathematics." Mathematics is more logic.

Depends. If you want to understand mathematics then you require a good Int score. If you simply want to apply it, you don't need to understand why the formula works, so rote learning will do. Kinda like how you don't need to be a mechanic to make a car go forward.
