No, the gains are retroactive since it boosts you the base +3 and then extra based on how many levels(hit dice) you currently possess.

Yeah. In 3.5 it just added a flat +3 HP but you could stack it.

Pathfinder changed it so you get +1HP per level basically and it's retroactive.

Yes. And as far as aquireing gold is concerned, you'll get it when you crawl a few dungeons and/or sell off the things you aquire from defeating enemies. I had a plyer once who used to specifically kill animals in the woods and skin them to sell hides to the traders in each town we passed. He didn't make a hell of a lot of money from it... but it was something that kept him from being dead flat broke a lot of the time.

Darn, I just assumed it was 100 silver = 1 gold. I wonder if that means I'm richer or poorer than I initially calculated. Probably poorer. I'll take a look over my stuff tonight and see how far off my character sheet is.

Yyg, I found this this morning and I'm at work so obviously I haven't tried it, but maybe this could help you make some battle maps quick. It's a map editor for tiled 2D games, which is basically what D&D is when it comes to combat.

EDIT: And while I figure that program will export the map without grid lines, adding grid lines to an image is dead simple with GIMP.

A couple of other good free map making programmes you might want to look at too.

Armando's link looks pretty nice too. I do like the 16-bit era RPG look.

I'll also be changing the OP to include all the important information that's been lost to the pages of this thread. It'll help to have everything in one location I'm sure.

OP has now been altered. In it is included a slightly updated version of the map as well as some of our resources.

                    • Re: D&D

I hope you enjoy the world Genesis story as much as I enjoyed writing it:

The year is 499AGC (After the Great Conflict) and the world is just settling into the lull of a peaceful era. The haunting echoes of the war that split the world are distant and quiet now. The Gods remain at a distance from the world of men and watch over us in silence. However, this was not always the way of things.

Many years before the Great Conflict, the inhabitants of the world were at odds with one another. Massive armies were founded and loosely-knit alliances waged war on one another for dominance of the realm. The warring lasted centuries and countless lives were lost. Entire civilizations were utterly annihilated when men who fancied themselves rulers burned their cities to the ground. The Gods soon tired of the wars and started to grow angrier as fewer and fewer people were paying tribute to them. In an effort to end things, the Gods knew they would have to narrow the field. To do so, they delivered unto the world... a test. In the midst of the struggle, a young couple from the neutral city of Ember gave birth to triplets. From the moment they arrived, it was clear that they possessed within them vast powers.

Omar was the first born of the three. From a young age, his skills with swordsmanship surpassed any in the small village. In addition, he picked up magic as if it was written into his blood. His talents were surpassed only by his kindness and honor. Hi was the mold from which the finest of Paladins are these days cast. If ever there had been a man worthy to make king, it would have been him.

Abel was the youngest and the most unpredictable. He grew to become a savage young man equally matched to his brother's skill with sword and spell. Unlike his brother, he resented the villagers for not taking up arms and trying to help to end the war going on outside their walls. Each day he grew more restless and more angry.

Bianca was second-born. She was a peaceful child of pure heart. Muted at birth, she never spoke a word. Perhaps it was her silence that gave her personality such mystery... or more likely it was her fairy-like care free attitude. With her around, everyone seemed to become more calm and relaxed, even her brothers.

The years that followed saw the small village attacked by raiders time and again. In the aftermath of one such battle, the brothers argued furiously about what needed to be done to best protect their people. Abel insisted that they should strike back and avenge the wrongful deaths of their brethren while Omar plead that they should remain and defend the remaining villagers. The debate came to an end with one swing of Abel’s sword stopping only inches from his brother’s throat.

“If you see fit to stand by and do NOTHING, it would appear that the task lay in my hands alone!”

And with his piece said, Abel marched from his birthplace into the wild with nothing more than his sword and his wits about him.

In his travels, he formed alliances with the neighboring villages and claimed their strongest men for his army. Soon enough, he was leading a force the likes of which the world had never seen. Over time, his goal of revenging was replaced with a lust for battle and the destruction of all those who opposed him. He became known as the Tyrant Abel; a title he wore as a badge of honor.

Omar sat in equal silence with their sister while news of their brother’s conquests made its way to them. It was clear that war had driven him mad and that he would not stop until he had forced every living being into submission. Knowing he must be stopped… or at least reasoned with, the siblings left their homeland in search of their brother. They found him easily enough and Abel openly welcomed them into his ranks. He held a grand celebration to commemorate the re-uniting of his family and the imminent demise of all who stood against them.

Amidst the celebration, Omar attempted to reason with him.

Omar: “Brother! When will it be enough? When will your thirst be quenched and when can we stop this madness?”

Abel: “What madness do you speak of brother? I hold this world within my own hands! Perhaps it is jealousy you speak of! That your younger brother has done what you yourself could not!”

Omar: “Brother, can you not see what this warring has done to you? Can you not see the path that your actions have taken? Bianca and I… we are going to lose you to this… but more importantly, you’re going to lose yourself!”

Abel: “COWARD! I don’t need lectures on ‘my path’ from the likes of you! If you wish me to stop, you will have to stop me yourself!”

Omar: “I have no desire to fight against you.”

Abel: “Then you really are a coward, brother! You and that god forsaken village of ours! You’re all weak! But not I! I stood and took arms! I turned the tide of this conflict myself! It was you who held me back! Think of where I could be if it weren’t for you and your miserable honor!”

Omar: “So you speak of honor. What honor is there in this war? What will become of you when it’s over? What then?”

Abel: “This world will be mine. I will rule it as the Gods had planned! Hadn’t you noticed, brother?! WE WERE MEANT FOR SO MUCH MORE! You and I have powers that you must well know by now are not cut from the same cloth as these peons! We are made unto the image of the Gods themselves. I plan to live as one… and if need be I will cut you down where you stand to make that possible! Join with me brother, or have your last breath be choked with blood by the hands of your little brother!”

Omar: “I shall not join you and I do not wish to fight you! However, if what you have told me bares the fruits of truth, it would seem I have no choice but to show you the error of your ways at the end of my sword. It would appear that my brother, who left our village so many years ago, died out here somewhere amidst the blood and the steel. Somewhere inside of that body beats the heart of my brother and I not stand idly by as you tarnish his name with your ravings! Have at you Demon!”

What followed was a clash of sword and steel that shook the world to its very core. Brother pitted against brother. Good pitted against evil. Their bodies collided to the sounds of thunder their swords met arms with bursts of lightning. The ground beneath them cracked and split into deep ravines and the sky darkened above their heads. The power of the gods did indeed flow in their veins and it showed that night as Abel’s army stood by helplessly watching the brothers fight tirelessly against one another. It seemed to those looking on that the world would sooner split in two before either would be killed and it likely would have if not for Bianca.

Her beautiful face twisted and distorted by an aura of purest energy radiating from her body, the middle child marched silently as always toward her brothers. Determination written on her warped features, she shoved the two apart and stood between them.

Abel: “Sister! Stand aside or be next!”

Omar: “This is not your fight, Bianca!”

With those words, Bianca’s head snapped up, her gaze fixed directly on her siblings and her aura expanding. The brother’s both took a cautious step backwards and exchanged nervous glances of their own as their sister’s body lifted itself from the ground and hovered in the night air in front of them.

                      Bianca: “E…ENOUGH-OUGH-OUGH-OUGH!!!”

Her voice rang out in the field and echoed off into the distance. It was powerful, more powerful than the brothers could have imagined and they found themselves thrown to the ground beneath her.

Bianca: “You are not here to fight, brothers. Your purpose was to protect… a purpose that you have failed. The Gods are disappointed in you… but worry not. I will spare you their wrath as I was intended to do from the start.”

The middle child hovered to her brothers, landed and knelt between them, placing one hand on each of their shoulders.

Bianca: “We must fulfill or purpose as one, brothers. When the time comes, we will see each other again. Until then, I must stop this needless bloodshed myself.”

And with her final words spoken, Bianca’s aura folded out and wrapped itself around the three siblings, encasing them in a ball of pure light. Soon, from somewhere deep within, the ball pulsated deeply and erupted forth with a wave of energy that swept out over the land. It crossed rivers, oceans, mountains and cities. It passed through the minds and hearts of man and beast alike and at once, the soldiers of armies across the world dropped their weapons and lost the will to fight.

When the dust settled, the siblings were gone and the warring ended.

And so ended the great conflict and began a new era of peace and prosperity the world over. Centuries later, the good King Arthur Daedalus erected the city of Alpha Pendilia as a tribute to the climactic battle and the selfless sacrifice of the 3 godsends who brought peace to the realm. His family bloodline has reigned there ever since, over an ever expanding kingdom of peace and neutrality that has united the world.

Here's my new question for you guys. I have for you... 2 options. Pick one and let me know.

Option 1: Continue along the path that you played last week (without Murph) and continue up the frozen mountain to the west of Ocean's Edge.

                        or

Option 2: Have me think up a new starting mission for you all to undertake that will include Murph in the decision making.

Whichever choice you make, you'll maintain the experience awarded to you last week. I'm just swimming in ideas right now... many of which are based around an early level party who isn't lost in the mountains.

                        The choice is yours.

If you opt to start anew, let me know what type of climate you fancy most and I can take that into consideration when building the first missions. Examples: Desert, Forest, Mountains, Cityscape, Plains, Underground, small towns... etc.

Campaign retcons after one session? Woohoo!

I'm all for continuing our spelunking trip, but going two sessions in a row without Murph seems like a dick move.

Since it's early in the campaign I'd be ok with either. Gonna wait for everyone else to chime in before deciding anything.
