  • Re: D&D

Ok, so I'm making my character sheet right now. Given that I've never played D&D before and don't have a good grasp on combat or tanking and I don't remember who's picking what class: would a Crusader/combat-type Cleric be of any use to the group, or do we already have a front-line fighter/tank?

      We do not.

As it stands right now we have:

      2 Rogues of different build.
1 Wizard or Sorcerer or whatever.
      1 Fighter/Rogue
      1 Druid (tentative)
      1 Mathmancer (you)

If you want to play a cleric, that's awesome. If you want to play something else, that's fine, and I'll swap to cleric. I may still swap. I'm not sure I'm liking my character concept.

One way or the other, we're lacking in a healer-type class. Anything capable of healing in any way would be great.

I might roll a Paladin. I have a stronger concept for that one. But I'm open to whatever. I'm just going to fill whatever gaps we have. So play what you want, folks.

I want to play some variant of a Cleric. It's just that it's been mentioned that:
            * Melee doesn't scale as well as magic in 3rd Ed
            * Healing in combat kind of sucks because it takes up the whole turn, can't swing and cast at the same time
            * There is no hate system, so I have no way if keeping mobs on me (outside of spells to limit movement)

So I'm really just wondering if having some combat feats (stuff like Combat Reflexes, Improved Shield Bash and Saving Shield) will make me a better tank or if I'd just be better off being a regular cleric with good armor and casting more.

              Probably the latter.

Honestly, you should just do what you think would be fun.

Those feats all sound like good ideas to me. I picked up Combat Reflexes and Bodyguard to start, the latter of which is very similar to Saving Shield.

I guess you picked it up because it was on one of the lower shelves.

Amando: Just go with what is fun. I actually enjoy playing Clerics so if we do lack a healery type it's not the end of the world. Clerics and Druids can both heal well and Paladins aren't bad at it.

If you want to be a tanky type in combat then Clerics, Paladins, Barbarians and Fighters are all good at it, Druids too actually since they get similar spells to Clerics. Though Ygg does keep saying that the campaign will be roleplay heavy so honestly just go with what will be fun.

                        CHR: 10-2 (2 points)
HP: 8...do I add my +2 CON mod at level 1?

                        Feat: Tower Shield Proficiency

2 Skill points, invested in Perception and Sense Motive

                        Did I miscalculate anything there?

EDIT: To get Cover from a Tower Shield I have to give up my attacks. Can I still cast?

Wait, you guys are still planning? So 24 pages of planning for the planning?

                          If the actual campaign doesn't take at least 200 pages I'm going to be very disappointed. <_<;

Yes, so your starting hp is actually 10.

Actually, Armando, your final con is 16 so that gives you a +3 modifier, does it not?
