Re: D&D
OK, so the build I'm looking at is a Halfling Wizard. I was going sorcerer, but I'd rather max out INT rather than CHA, since INT will give me alot more skills, and I think those additional skills will be best to help out the party. I also dont want to be sitting around doing nothing when I run out of spells, so I'll be maxing our my DEX and carry a heavy crossbow to help deal damage. I'm passing on STR, but I'm thinking since we'll be a party and I will never really be going solo, treasure we find can be carried by someone else? The only realy drawback from my STR would be checks for grappling, jumping, swimming, that I don't plan on doing too much, but I'm interested on hearing your opinions. I left my sheets i was filling out at home, so here's the best I can remember:
Name: Mez
Race: Halfling
Class: Wizard
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
STR: 10 (-2) = 8
DEX: 16 (+2) = 18
CON: 11
INT: 18
WIS: 11
CHA: 10
I get 10 + (4x2) = 18 skills, so I was putting them in alot of categories. I was putting 2 in general local knowledge and nature knowledge, not sure if we need that, but I thought it could be good to be able to know about the locality and nature? Let me know if you think that could be spent elsewhere. I spent them in all the magey areas and in the common sense areas. I dont have the whoel list, but if there are some areas you think I defintely need, let me know.
AC: 15 with no armor or mage armor (+4) which I'll probably be using
Attack bonus: +5 with heavy crossbow.
Throwing weapons use STR mod right? If so, i dont agree with that and boo... I'm picking the halfing for the +1 to all saving throws, +1 to AC for being small, +1 to attack bonus for being small, and the +4 hide bonus. Since I'm a squishy mage, I need to be able to evade as many hits as possible. I'll be hiding in behind the barrell of ale firing off crossbow bolts early on...
Oh, and question.
Precise Shot [General]
Prerequisite
Point Blank Shot.
Benefit
You can shoot or throw ranged weapons at an opponent engaged in melee without taking the standard -4 penalty on your attack roll.
Special
A fighter may select Precise Shot as one of his fighter bonus feats.
Does this mean if Armando is engaged with a mob, and I'm shooting a bolt from a distance at that mob's back, I take a -4 attack role penalty? That does not make sense if so...75: Sam, Nin, Blm, Thf, Pld, Cor, Rdm

Re: D&D
I think you're overthinking the mechanics of your character, but if you're enjoying that far be it from me to tell you to stop.
An observation that I might be wrong about since I'm unfamiliar with the system: Unless some wizard trait is giving you a special exception to this, your maximum rank in any skill is equal to your character level. So if you have 18 skill points at level 1, they need to be in 18 different skills.
As for the ranged attack thing, I believe you are correct. You get a penalty to hit because you have to take extra care not to hit your ally and because the target is engaged in the chaotic motion of melee.

How are you getting 10 + (int mod x 2) skills? I think it's just supposed to be 2 + int mod.

Re: D&D
You might have to redo your skills. Since Yyg is having us do Pathfinder now you don't get that whole x4 thing at the start and you can only put in a max of a rank for each character level. It threw me for a loop when I was redoing my character sheet last night, so I had to re-evaluate some of my skill choices.
Character Creation Outline - Pathfinder_OGC
Also, I totally forgot to include racial stat bonus that humans get. Is that a thing I can do Yyg, or is it a straight point buy with no racial mods? I'm fine either way, but it'd be nice to know whether or not I'm doing this wrong.
Throwing weapons getting a STR mod totally makes sense. Under hand softball throw from a little girl vs 90mph fast ball from an athlete, makes a world of difference in how long it takes you to recover from getting hit.
Ah yes, shooting into melee. All kinds of fun to be had there. When folks are fighting and moving around a whole lot, it's hard to both hit your target while missing your friend when they're so darn close.Server: Midgardsormr -> Quetzalcoatl -> Valefor

Re: D&D
oh, ok, I can t access that link. I was going off the site Yyg originally post back on page 1 of this thread. I'll have to check that link when i get home. How many feats do you start out with at level 1? 1? 2 for humans? and then an additional feat every 4 levels?75: Sam, Nin, Blm, Thf, Pld, Cor, Rdm

Re: D&D
Hmm, yeah. That's 36 points worth of stats based on the values Yyg set on the first page.
Humans start with 2 feats, Wizards get additional feats every 4 levels, so that's right.

Re: D&D
28 points, everything starts at 8.
STR - 10 (2 points)
DEX - 16 (8 points)
CON - 11 (3 points)
INT - 18 (10 points)
WIS - 11 (3 poitns)
CHA - 10 (2 points)
that's 28 points. +2 to dex and -2 to str for racial bonus.75: Sam, Nin, Blm, Thf, Pld, Cor, Rdm
