  • Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Confirmed Region Free Persona Q also confirmed for EU

Late I know but I've had a busy week so sue me:

Looks like Atlus is finally starting to get better with this whole localisation business. I'll have to grab source links but its hard to do via phonepost. Anyway:

    • P4AU is confirmed region free.
    • Persona Q has been announced for Europe with NISA picking up publishing and localisation duties.

Great news really. Especially with NISA getting more Atlus games to publish, they have proven themselves as very good publishers that get games out with minimal delay. Contrast Ghostlight that often put out localisations for games in a completely broken and unplayable state.

Region free is great news too. Atlus has basically had to go into money grab mode ever since Index let them start acting more independently again so I was concerned they would go into greed mode like last time.

By the look of it, Europe is getting all of the really nice bonus still in the limited editions too like the 3DS cases and tarot cards.

Index was in greed mode, Atlus was just subject to their whims. Index in greed mode is region lock.

Atlus in cash grab mode is Persona 4: Dancing All Night, Persona stage plays, Persona concerts and an utterly needless Persona 4 Golden anime. That is a result of being scared about your future, though, and also milking the hottest thing you have. Atlus is really testing people's patience with these things, too. Its practically the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII all over again.

It might be better, but we all know P4:DaN is seriously jumping the shark in watts FFVII; Dirge of Cerberus was not.

With P4A, Atlus was shooting for their first-ever worldwide release. Index owning them and their partnership with the lethargic Zen United fucked that up. Index got scared, doesn't know a damn thing about the fighting game community and wanted a sense of security and control, so they demanded the region lock. Atlus USA did try to show them the error in this kind of thinking, but they had to do what they were told so the region lock could not be overridden.

European Atlus fans started knee-jerking for two full years.

One of the good things about Sega purchasing Atlus is that, for better or worse, Sega has a decent EU localisation history.

For which games, exactly? That Yakuza game they didn't bring over, the other one, the latest one, the Wii U remasters, Valkyria Chronicles 3 or Phantasy Star Online 2?

At least Beyonatta 2 is happening.

Oh wait... that's no thanks to Sega.

I see zero correlation between Atlus and Sega on releases right now. Maybe its just too early to tell, but more and more Atlus has been partnering with NISA to get their games out in Europe or self-publishing digitally in English only. That's better than usual for what Atlus usually does, but what does Sega have to do with that? Sega's contribution has been a new, ugly logo and a needless dance game spin-off. Atlus is still being left to their own devices so far.
