  • E3 2014

There, the thread has been made. You may post your hopes, dreams or completely baseless speculation in it.

I'm hoping for Fallout 4 and SMTxFE news. There's an interesting rumor of a "Mario Maker" going around, but I know I get bored of level editors within three days so that's probably not my thing. I would get it to download and play people's creations, then quit after seeing people recycle World 1-1 to death or easy levels getting rated too high.

If Sony doesn't cough up a date for The Last Guardian and not have a trailer this year, I will believe it is dead..

New Nintendo IPs are rumored and people love to froth at the mouth over that, but MS hasn't grown their stable of IPs at all and let a generation of them fall into obscurity. Supposedly Phantom Dust is resurfacing, though. I'd just like a new Crimson Skies or more Rare IPs put to work.

Also, I want to see Retro back on Metroid. Sakamoto stated he wasn't involved with anything Metroid right now (thank god), so this is a chance to bring Samus back to glory.

Oh, isn't there a Smash Bros. thing happening at Best Buy this weekend? I might want to check in on that.

It'd be nice to see something that would make investing in a console or handheld a worthwhile investment for me again but I'm not holding out much hope these days.

          Re: E3 2014

E3 starts on Monday with everyone's conferences except Nintendo which will be on Tuesday, and then the event wraps up on Thursday I think (that's when Yoshida will be doing his live letter from E3 anyway).

Personally I'm excited to see Battlefield: Hardline at 3 PM Monday ^_^ (EST) Cops and Robbers theme this time? Awesome. Even got grappling hooks and zip lines!

Hey at least it's different from the usual fare, and Visceral is working on it too.

EDIT: WTF!? OK so apparently neither KH3 nor FFXV will be at E3, but SE says more info will be coming soon enough.

            Re: E3 2014

            My expectations:

            Nintendo:
I have no idea what Nintendo will be bringing to the table, but I do think that what they do show will say a lot about the future of the Wii U. Having Smash Brothers release first on the 3DS is troubling, to say the least, and (in my opinion) a big vote of no confidence in the console. If they do a big splash for a new Zelda game and/or move the release date up for the Wii U (which I think they ought to, if it's at all possible), that would suggest they're going to continue to support the console. Metroid would be great to see, but I'm honestly not expecting it.

            Microsoft:
I expect Microsoft to come in guns blazing. At least one major third party exclusive game of some sort (because let's face it, their internal IPs are mostly tired / ancient, and they have no teams left to work on them in any case unless you count Rare). Sunset Overdrive looks good but isn't mainstream. Quantum Break also looks good but also isn't mainstream. We'll see a lot of Halo. Rumors are flying of a Halo HD Collection of some sort, and I find that plausible.

Kinect being optional will be an interesting topic to see how they deal with. Harmonix was probably working on Dance Central 4, and were definitely working on Fantasia: Music Evolved, so I'm curious how that studio will react.

I hope to see more about Below from Capybara Games.

            Sony:
Like last year, Sony has been playing their cards extremely close to their chest. The only thing that seems to have leaked is Project Beast from FROM Software. With the various delays to DriveClub, The Order 1886, we still know very little about what Sony's internal studios are working on. Uncharted and SingStar are the only known quantities announced since last year, there's still around a dozen studios that are a big question mark.

PS Now and Project Morpheus are both going to be very difficult to present and sell to the general public, but I think Sony will try (and fail).

            EA:
Battlefield: Hardline will obviously feature prominently. I don't feel like EA has a lot of surprise up their sleeves, but with such a large developer/publisher, they could always surprise. I actually expect a teaser for Star Wars Battlefront.

            Square-Enix:
LOL. Please be excited? It'll be a miracle if we see FFXV or KH3 beyond a short teaser, and I don't expect these to show up at all until 2015 or later. S-E's western studios will save them again I think. Tomb Raider 2 is probably on lock, possibly Deus Ex 2.

            Ubisoft:
Assassin's Creed Unity of course. I expect to see more from Valiant Hearts: The Great War, and Ubisoft being Ubisoft, I expect a new title reveal of some sort (maybe a new Prince of Persia - it's long past time).

            Konami:
Kojima will pull another Kojima unless he gets dragged onto either the Microsoft or Sony stages.

            CD Project Red:
Witcher 3 will get a bonanza at their event.

            Capcom:
Ultimate Ultra Supreme SSSSuper Street Fighter IV. Deep Down.

            Activision:
Destiny, Call of Duty, Diablo III. No surprises.

            Sega/Atlus:
Persona 5 official reveal, something something Sonic.

            Take 2:
PS4/XB1 GTA 5. Evolve. No serious surprises.

            Warner Brothers:
Everyone is expecting the (previously teased) reveal of Mortal Kombat X. Arkham Knight will be shown, despite being delayed.

            Indies:
I expect No Man's Sky to show up at the PS4 event. Probably a big push for indies on the Sony event. Microsoft may also push indies via ID@XBOX, but they risk looking like they're late to the party. Sony has a ton of indie titles on their show floor space.

Nintendo should show off some of their indie games as well; the Wii U has gotten a fair number of projects, and those games are just about ready to release (Shovel Knight comes on June 26th for instance).

I can confirm this. Twitch is flying out some JP players for some exhibition matches, so yeah...
Hopefully they'll have more than just that to trot out, but fuck if I know.

                Re: E3 2014

I already told you SE has confirmed FFXV and KH3 will not be shown, which is annoying but whatever. I am however hoping either at a conference or during Yoshida's live letter to get a sneak peak at XIV's 1st expansion.

And I think MS is going to really push the $399 XB1. It's make or break for them right now as Sony still has a lot of momentum behind them. Hoping for at least 1 good new IP, though Halo 5: Guardians should be amazing I am super excited for it ^_^ It's not set for release until next year though, so we'll probably just get some minor info and maybe a demo showcasing the new engine.

As for nothing new from Activision-Blizzard I disagree. As much as I find CoD detestable at this point, it Advanced Warfare or w/e they calling it *is* the 1st game in like a f'ing decade now with a new engine so that's something at least. More importantly though, I'm hoping Blizzard gives us the release date for Curse of Naxxramus (HS expansion) as well as a trailer for Legacy of the Void, unless they're saving that for Blizzcon but I doubt it - that's too far away and E3 is the only gaming event that's covered by the media so they need to showcase all their best stuff.

Who the hell knows what nintendo will show, but I'd like to see some working demos of a new Metroid, Zelda and X.

And as usual, Ubisoft's show will have 1 or 2 good games and the wrest of it will be a cringe-worthy trainwreck like it is every year. I don't think I'll ever be able to fully forget Mr. Caffeine.

                  Sega/Atlus:
Persona 5 official reveal, something something Sonic.
Sonic Boom is a given, Persona 5 won't debut to western audiences, though. Atlus just never makes with the new stuff at E3 and often not TGS, either.

And honestly, it needs to distance itself from what is hopefully P3/P4's last hurrahs anyway. Its not as much of a mixed bag as the FFVII compilation, but P4:DaN is practically jumping the shark.

I'm really just signing up for Persona Q because, like SMTxFE its an interesting mash up. I'm going to enjoy watching Persona fans set the game to easy in hoped of breezing through for story and get punched in the throat in the first dungeon anyway.

                    Re: E3 2014

I'd love to see Persona 5 and the Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire remakes but they are likely being held off until TGS.

I guess that mostly leaves me Witcher 3 to be most excited about. Samurai Warriors 4 and Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires are coming out in the West this year, but those games don't sell in the US, and games reminiscent of the old Beat em Ups are very popular in the UK and Europe, so we will probably get more info at TGS or Eurogamer. The DW8 enhanced port did nearly sway me to buy a PS4 until the POC version was announced and I've not regretted the decision to get it on PC one bit. That sort of games needs to be played at 60FPS, and I can quite easy hit 120 on my 120Hz Monitor as the framerate isn't actually locked.

Hoping for more info on Farcry 4 too actually. So I guess that's one other thing. Hoping there will be announcement on the Company of Heroes 2 expansion as well.
