    Re: E3 2014

Is there somewhere I can actually download and watch MS's conference? So far all I see is conference footage with Twitch/YouTube commentator mindvomit in it.

I hope Sony is on their game posting to YouTube later, because I know its live and all, but Nintendo's directs are available the second livestreams end.

Anyway, the MGS V trailer was pretty intense, I like how Dragon Age III is shaping up and I like that 343 is going all out with the Master Chief collection.

Fable Legends was mostly a turn-off, at least until the showed the Dungeon Master/Villian angle. That's been something I hoped someone would try with Wii U since the gamepad would work well with DM functions. Still, Fable is generic as hell on its fantasy and good/evil angle, why can there ever be neutral ground or greater moral complexity? Even your bog standard JRPG has more Greg areas these days.

I thought Fallout news would happen with MS if it happened anywhere. I guess Bethesda is going to remain mum unless Sony:s doing the reveal.

    New TR looks nice, too.

      Re: E3 2014

Just got home and catching up on the E3 conferences.

      Let's start with Microsoft.

Sunset Overdrive is looking pretty great, but seems too niche to move the needle. I love the guys at Insomniac when they stretch and take some chances (as opposed to listening to their focus groups), and S.O. looks like where all the creativity went that "should" have gone into Fuse (which was originally Overstrike).

Forza Horizon 2 looks OK. Funny that it comes out a week ahead of DriveClub for PS4. Racing's not really my thing, but the first sold very well on 360, and I do expect some positive buzz from this game.

Halo: Master Chief Collection. Expected and looks good. Smart move from Microsoft.

Halo 5: Guardians. Too early to tell, but it's Halo, so of course it will have an impact and produce sales.

Ori and the Blind Forest: Gorgeous looking indie game with a lot of charm.

Inside: Gives off a lot of Limbo vibes (as it should, being from the same developer). Promising.

Phantom Dust: Looks good, but not much shown. A surprising blast from the past.

Beyond: Flesh and Blood: Interesting, but not much shown. Some sort of a mech game I guess?

Crackdown: Now we're talking. Wish we had more than a CGI trailer, but the fact that Microsoft recognizes the legacy of great gameplay is fantastic.

Cuphead: What a neat little game.

Threes: Yawn. Cellphone math game. Next.

Evolve: Still looks interesting, though I really worry about the game balance in this game.

Project Spark: Now with more Conker. This is really the only serious misfire in the presentation, IMO. Don't play with the heartstrings of your fans, Microsoft.

Scalebound: Platinum Games. Monster Hunter with dragons that fight with you? Intriguing. Still won't make a dent in Japan because it's tied to the non-existent Xbox brand. But I can't blame Microsoft for trying.

Fable Legends: PvP ripped out of Natural Selection? I guess that's one direction to take the series. Not really sure how well that's going to translate to a controller input scheme though.

Happy Wars: Yawn. Game sucks on PC and 360, no reason to believe an HD facelift will improve it.

Warframe: Late to the party, but Warframe is one of the best F2P games out there. Should work OK on XB1, though the lack of buttons on the controller could become a mild problem. It's already pretty crowded on the PS4 controller as is and that's including 5 inputs on the touchpad (tap, swipe L/R/U/D).

      My overall grade: A

Microsoft has done an excellent job at presenting a huge slate of varied games, and more importantly not mentioning TV, Sports, Kinect, or sales numbers.

        Re: E3 2014

I give 'em a B personally. They played it very safe, nothing really struck out as amazing but there were no flops either. Bonus points for focusing solely on games. Would have really liked to have seen more of Halo 5 other than a stingy MP beta trailer (with no solid details beyond new abilities). Also not crazy about halo 2's MP being brought back completely untouched - Halo 2 had the best maps in the series, but also the worst exploits (BxR, BxB etc.) and I'm not crazy about that. Sucks they couldn't at least touch up 3 a bit either but overall still an impressive project - 100 MP maps that you can play at any time at 60 FPS on dedicated servers, and being able to jump between any mission from any of the 4 games whenever you like is also pretty cool. It's by no means bad, just like the presentation itself nothing mind blowing.

So far I've found EA's showing to be the best. Bioware has a lot on their plate and I hope they can come through on all their stuff. Sucks we didn't get to see too much of ME4, but what they did show looks promising. My favorite game revealed so far has been BF Hardline (got the PS4 beta! :D ) followed by new Tomb Raider and Farcry 4. FC4 had one of the BEST trailers I've seen in a while, love that villain. Oh the Division looks good as well.

I have mixed feelings about AC Unity. I LOVE 4-player co-op being added at last and the setting but the series is starting to wear thin. Also just sick of Ubisoft's seemingly compulsive need to plaster a billion sidequests in all their games around every f'ing corner.

EDIT: OK, Rainbow Six Siege actually looks really good as well o.o

Ori and the Blind Forest is a first-day buy for sure.

I'm curious where I should go for E3 coverage stuff, though. Only stuff I watched so far was from my friend's Xbone.

            Re: E3 2014

Sony's E3 presser is boring so far. Grim Fandango remastered is fantastic, and No Man's Sky looks outrageously awesome (esp. if it comes to Morpheus as many are expecting), but no big surprises yet.

EDIT: Bloodbourne looks awesome (it should, it's basically Demon's Souls 2). Nothing else really surprising, really. Uncharted 4, GTA5 for PS4, LittleBigPlanet, MGS5: The Phantom Pain, Mortal Kombat X, Batman: Arkham Knight, yadda yadda. Yawn.

Also: Movies and TV. Gee, Sony, I thought you knew better than to talk about this stuff at E3.

            Overall grade for Sony: C

              Re: E3 2014

Well Sony was a big let down. Idiots let all the momentum they'd built up slip out of their hands.

Way, WAY too much focus on indie games and TV wtf... not many new games either, just a lot of DLC and and ports of existing games. They had some good stuff but damn, it just dragged on too long and not as much excitement - MS' conference had far better pacing.

And once again, no Last Guardian what the sweet hell Sony?!

                Re: E3 2014

Yeah, No Man's Sky and Bloodborne were the only real standouts to me.

"Hundreds of games" coming to Vita, but they didn't show any of them coming to retail. No news on PSOne or PS2 Classics for PS4 - seems they're really betting it all on PS Now (so I hope it fails spectacularly). And The Last Guardian was a no show for I think is now the fourth E3 in a row.

The indie and middle-tier stuff was good, but that's all.

Dunno what to make of Let It Die. I love Suda 51, but I think we're due NMH3 by now. Maybe that's a Wii U thing.

OMG!!! The new Zelda is absolutely beautiful, and they are keeping the sense of freedom and exploration the older games had - you are free to explore the whole world right from the start!

                      Re: E3 2014

Well, Nintendo didn't show much and teased more stuff for later today, but their presentation was concise, entertaining and did what a press conference really should do - make me want the system you're selling.

Zelda was jaw-dropping. Bayonetta packed in Bayo2 was a brilliant move and I could see myself picking up a Wii U with that to start off. Footage of Hyrule Warriors helped alleviate some of my concerns with its strong use of characters (though I still have doubts about it). Splatoon looked brilliant, probably the most colorful and imaginative thing at e3 next to Sunset Overdrive and No Man's Sky.

Xenoblade Chronicles X looked lovely as expected, sad it was pushed back to 2015, though.

Palutena in Smash was rumored, but I'm glad she got in and that they name dropped Uprising.

Bummed SMTxFE was a no show again, but maybe Atlus and Nintendo need Atlus' Personagasms to subside before we get anything on that.

I think Nintendo and MS played to their strengths and brought the heat, scratching their fans' itches exactly how they wanted to. Sony was just kinda there this year expecting to ride last year's success.

                      Results:

                      Nintendo = Well done.
                      MS = Medium well.
                      Sony = Microwaved leftovers.

                        Re: E3 2014

Honestly found it hard to get excited at all with this year's E3. Nobody really stood out massively, though Sony did make me scratch my head and wonder what it is actually going to release this year. If I'm honest most of the compelling games (like Witcher III, which isn't even a exclusive and will be best on PC anyway) aren't even out until next year anyway. All I got from was Microsoft is "Here's a bunch of shooters and racing games that do nothing new and are iterative as hell, we won't try something new because fuck you, give me money!"

Honestly I'd say it was all pretty much average all around, though Nintendo does have the more interesting selection of "Game trailers that have nothing at all to do with actual gameplay, but might occasionally be rendered with the game engine but still shows no actual gameplay, because fuck you, give me pre order money!" videos. So they win? I guess?

This announcement did turn my head though right intime for my second 3DS to brick itself: «Mario Kart 8 va relancer les ventes de la Wii U»

Basically SMT IV is getting a French localisation done by NoE and they have only just started on localisations this year. So maybe we might get it it. I don't know when. I guess it might be time to just say fuck it, sell all of my 3DS games and just import a fucking American 3DS.

                        Current predictions:

Persona Q might reach us in 2015.
Dancing all Night might reach us in 2016.
Persona 5 will get Region locked as well and nobody will buy it because it will be a PS3 game releasing in about 2017
Arena Ultimax will be a year late and full price, then history will repeat itself and it will flop because they tried to release it in the same week as an Injustice sequel some time in 2016.
Persona 6 will be announced before we get SMT IV

Yeah this was a surprisingly average E3 considering it's the 1st one for the new console gen. But then I guess maybe that goes hand in hand, and we'll see better stuff next year.

I'm still holding out for more amazing 3rd party stuff from Blizzard, SE etc. (PLEASE show Legacy of the Void!!!)

Confirmation from Yoshida about Scout & Ninja for XIV was great though! I'm also really happy that PS4 is getting a direct upload to Youtube feature.
