Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne coming to PS3 on the PSN Store.

Well at least in the US anyway. The EU PSN store has nothing announced for it, but it will be released as a PS2 classic on the store for people in the US.

There are actual legit licensing reasons for it. Nocturne is already used by another game series in the EU, an old Horror game on the PC by a developer called Terminal Reality (who made the Bloodrayne series, and the shockingly aweful The Walking Dead: Survival Instincts), and all in all, isn't a terrible game at all. Either way, SMT: Nocturne is known as Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's Call here in the EU, and to be honest as far as localised titles go, it actually fits pretty well and I actually prefer that title to Nocturne.

Atlus basically teased on Reddit that an SMT game is due to be released on PSN, and the ERSB confirmed it to be Nocturne for the PS3. Not it isn't clear what version is releasing. Atlus are pretty good with this however, as the Persona 3 announcement a while back turned out to be not only P3 but "P3 FES for everyone! Even EU fans!". It is making me personally wonder if they will be releasing the JP ONRY Nocturne Maniax Chronicle version, or if it would just be a pretty well done port of the original PS2 game.

Sadly still no news for SMT IV in the EU. So much for Atlus self publishing on the e-shop. Why they don't just give the game to NISA, who have an excellent record of publishing Atlus games in the EU, is beyond me. You would have thought they they learned from P4A, which burned in the EU due to all hype for it dying by the time is came out, and it releasing not long after the frankly excellent Injustice: Gods Among us. Or better yet, stop region locking your shit due to greed. I guess Atlus must really hate money (and that my friends is the definition of irony).

So anyway, now you all have pretty much have no excuse not to play it .

I'm really hoping they work out the licensing issues to get this on the EU PSN store as well. There has been a trend of PSN slowly dripping out the good old PS2 JRPGs over the last few months, likely capitalising on Bravely Default showing there's still a market for old JRRPGs.

That, and I guess Sony needs all the money it lost from the PC Division Money Pit somewhere.

Part of me is groaning that it won't be a Vita release despite it being a massive potential system seller in Japan. I guess Sony is allergic to money too XD

Rumor is by the end of summer, all things PS2 SMT will be up on PSN. Only Digital Devil Saga, DDS2 and Devil Summoner 2 are left.

After that, what would I need a PS2 for? I'll just have the physical copies to have them.

Well, maybe I'd need one for FFXII... But dear god the jaggies that has on an HD set. It needs a remaster badly. Nocturne and DDS look mostly fine because they were more cel shaded (minus thick outlines, at least).

I was very disappointed when I found out FFXII doesn't support 480p.

I'm pretty much that way with PS2 games in general now. Most of the good ones that I like I now own in some way digitally (the rest are Dynasty Warriors games, though to be fair 2, 3 and Samurai Warriors were the only good PS2 ones). Still nice to have the games there to look nice and pretty I guess.

Atlus confirmed more is indeed on the way to PSN. The hint is "its getting hot in here.'

Sounds like Digital Devil Saga is next. There's a character named Heat in that one.

DDS 1 and 2 did make it to the EU, so hopefully we should be getting those as well. Disappointed as I am that we haven't had an announcement for Nocturne but as I said, there is actually a licensing issue there. That and Ghostlight have the rights to distribute the game here so any version of Nocturne we ill get will probably break every time you save it like DS Overclocked.

Apparently the new Arena game will be region locked. Hoping Sega will actually publish it in a reasonable time over here but then again, they never promote games that aren't called Total War in Europe, and we are still waiting on a date for SMT IV .

I'm betting SMT IV got tied up in the transition between Index and Sega and the various deals Nintendo and Atlus had going.

A popular European myth is that Nintendo was publishing for Europe, but I've seen nothing to support it. Nintendo did have a publishing arrangement for South Korea, but that's it. So this is on Sega's head at this point.

I'll be thinking of Europe as I do my Chaos playthrough.

The last I heard, Atlus was self publishing on the e-Shop. Well that was the last thing official we got anyway but I wouldn't put it past Sega to publish it and not tell anyone at all. There have been a lot of really good games that flopped over her due to that like the very fun Vanquish.

Funnily enough, my new FC in FXIV has a lot of UK and Scandinavian players that love P4A. They got to see how truly awful I am at 2D fighting games but hey, at least I found people to play the bloody thing with now XD

Well, I can say it will be worth the wait so long as people are not expecting Nocturne or Persona 4 out of it. SMT IV certainly thinks more like SMT and SMT II in terms of story and world, it just plays more like Nocturne.

There's more than enough Persona coming out to tide us over to Persona 5 and I think even Atlus are finally realising that. I think the main reason we aren't seeing an updated version of P3P or FES is because it would just saturate the market with Persona games.

Ghostlight have DDS 1 and 2 for Europe and they already done fucked it all up. The game already works on the PS2 emulator but for whatever reason they don't seem able to get the PSN versions to work properly.

I pray to YHWH that they don''t get the SMT IV license. I'd rather have no SMT IV than a version that will barely run, and crap out on me the second I try to use the save game feature.

But serously Atlus. Why give it to Ghostlight again? They can't get a game that already runs on the PS3's PS2 emulator TO RUN ON THE PS3'S FUCKING PS2 EMULATOR.
