Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne coming to PS3 on the PSN Store.

SCEE ports the code submitted from Atlus/Ghostlight. That's actually how its handled in each region and why overlap is so spotty between the regional stores.

This would be SCEE's fuck up. Or there's just something in the game's code that doesn't play nice with the emulation. People have traced P3 FES's PSN save bug back to the Nocturne because emulating on PC sometimes brought the same bug up. Wouldn't surprise me if DDS had it, too.

It wouldn't be so bad if Ghostlight weren't notorious for this happening. All of the Atlus games handled by NISA have had no such issue (one of the many reasons the EU fans are clamouring for NISA to get more licenses for the EU). Persona 4 Golden, EOIV and Soul Hackers all has zero bugs and issues.

Tecmo Koei did a great job with the original EU versions of PS3, FES, Nocturne, DDS and Devil Summoner too. They also have a very big EU fanbase as well thanks to the Dynasty Warriors series. Actually I'm fairly sure that porting DW8:XLCE to the PC was purely for the EU market where PC still has a pretty big install base due to how obscenely expensive console gaming is over here.

Hopefully the porting bugs will be ironed out. DDS has been out of print here for a while here so a lot of new Atlus fans never got to play them.

That's really no excuse for a commercial port.

The port team has the original code, and it should have access to the emulator code. Any major bug should be resolvable. Unless they are upfront with the customers about this, knowingly shipping/distributing a program with major bugs is pretty unethical.

Again, that's something to take up with SCEA, SCEJ or SCEE. Its also part of why these aren't the simple ROM/ISO dumps people think they are.

The save bug in P3 FES never happened in the physical release in relation to PS2 hardware, just in PS2 emulation, so not fixing it is on Sony's head and they should fix it, but haven't so far.

Word is, however, that the issue has not occurred in the Nocturne release and if they worked it out there, its safe to say its not in Digital Devil Saga hitting US PSN today.

It's not just on Sony's shoulder. If you release a game and you list PS3 as a platform, it'd better work well on all flavor of PS3.

Plus, emulators usually have per-game patching. So, even if the port leverages an emulator, the people doing the porting can patch around whatever odd emulator issues they find.

Persona 4 Arena Removed From European PlayStation Network - Siliconera

Zen United have declined to comment but this is even worse news for EU Atlus fans.

If Atlus actually published by themselves, something that they can do very easily with Sega since they have a pretty good record of not messing too much with studios they purchase, or better yet stopped region locking to milk every last penny out of the Japanese and EU fans we would see far less of this.

EDIT: Good old fashioned greed is the current theory with the EU Fanbase given that more Limited Editions of P4A and Vinyl Soundtracks just magically appeared here:

On the bright side a localization studio did confirm they were translating SMT IV into French.

Sega could help Atlus get Arena back up on EU PSN, unless the fine print let's Zen United do otherwise. Seems like they pull similar kinds of shit with various games.

But right now, is there a point? P4A2 isn't too far off.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne coming to PS3 on the PSN Store.

The issue I take with this is that it is becoming rather anti consumer when a Publisher is pulling all copies except for the ones available from their own store. It doesn't matter who it is, if someone needs calling out on their shit, they should be called out on their shit. Atlus is not innocent in this; they could do a lot more in determining who to give the license to. SCEE and NoE are not innocent either, they could do a lot more QA when it comes to approving games for release.

And it is also important considering that we don't even have any hint of an EU release for P4A2 here, or even if there are any plans at all. As far as we know, P4A is the only Arena game we will see here,, it has gotten to that point where the fandom here just automatically assumes we will never get a game released by Atlus.

And people keep asking me why I'm fucking done with console and handheld gaming. Oh well, at least I have 60FPS Dynasty Warriors for fanboy over. Just a shame there's no option to use the PS4 character assets for the PC version of DW8. Then again if you can see just how many enemies you can have onscreen at once you will know why XD
