  • MMO Gold Standard? 100M WoW Players

World of Warcraft First Official Infographic - Blizzard Entertainment

It's players over lifetime, not active subscribers, which can be misconstrued by people in the media world I suppose... still, that's no small feat by any standards.

Damn, that's impressive. Can't hate, even if I wanted to.

Too bad they'll likely never pull it off again. I hope Blizzard's smart enough to realize that too, and instead of trying to catch lightning in a bottle, they do something new and awesome with Project Titan (whatever the hell it may be).

Initially Project Titan was rumored to be an FPS MMO. But since Mike Morhaime said that they were scrapping the project (or resetting it to zero), no one knows for certain what it was meant to be. There were initial commentary by Rob Pardo that Blizzard may reveal something, like a teaser, in either E3 or Blizzcon this year, but no one will hold their breath for it since they're too busy with the upcoming D3 expansion Reaper of Souls and SC2 Legacy of the Void later this year (early next year), and as well as WoW Warlords of Draenor.

Eh, Legacy of the Void won't be ready until 2015 at the earliest, assuming it goes as well as HotS did.

If it turns out to be a Starcraft MMO though.... hooooooooleeeeeee shit. Or Diablo. I could really get behind either one (well, I'd be willing to try 'em anyway).

I'd actually like to see something original from them, but who knows with Blizzard. Also, an FPS MMO sounds an awful lot like Destiny, lol.

As much as I would love Warcraft IV, I'm thinking it will be a new IP entirely.

It has to be new. They've ruined all their IPs with mediocre games.

That's your opinion, Dak, although I'm not saying that what you stated isn't true. However, Blizzard will dance at the tune of $$$, and if you only look at it from a perspective of $$$, then Blizzard's handling of their IPs have been nothing short of phenomenal. Art is subjective and controversial, so I won't get into my own personal views into whether or not I thought the games held any intellectual and spiritual value.
