  • Nintendo 3DS game recommendations?

Don't know what possessed me, but I bought a 3DS XL.

I don't know what I like in Nintendo's universe, but I do know I'm not interested in Pokemon, and I want an arcade stick for any fighting game, so not on 3DS. I also dislike paying more than $20 for games, but I guess for 3DS I'll have to raise the ceiling a bit.

So, what $25 and under games should I be looking at?

Given that Nintendo games don't really go down in price, not really sure what I could suggest outside of Mighty Switch Force and Shantae: Risky's Revenge, and technically those two are DSiWare games.

They are over a year old now but still pretty valid.

Not sure if the price has come down or not but Fire Emblem is a great buy.

I do see $40 games go down to $27 or so, but would like see lower prices in general. In any case, I found Shantae to be quite a good buy at $12. Thanks!

I do second the Shantae games. That series is a lot of fun, and it was one of the few Kickstarters that was worth backing. Some other games I highly recommend, though you mat want to wait for a price drop of get them second hand if you don't want to pay more than $20: Soul Hackers Etrian Odyssey IV Code of Princess Ocarina of Time 3D Link Between Worlds Virtue's Last Reward Bravely Default Pokemon X/Y Anything Professor Layton FE: Awakening Shin Megami Tensei IV (Not out over here but I've hears nothing but glowing praise for it) Remember that you also have access to the HUGE DS back catalogue on the 3DS.

Fire Emblem Awakening - possibily the most engaging and accessible strategy RPG ever made. You can make it as casual or permadeath hard as you like and the relationship-building is fun.

Kid Icarus Uprising - While a little hand-crampy at times, its a gorgeous, engaging shooter and the story is genuinely funny.

Cave Story - Retro-flavored Metroidvania with a dash of Contra. Get the eShop version, its cheaper and has more content than the remake in retail.

Style Savvy: Trendsetters - This is actually a surprisingly engaging game considering its a retail and fashion runway sim. I tried the demo out of sheer curiosity and got somewhat addicted for a time.

Etrian Odyssey IV/Etrian Odyssey Untold - Pretty much an old school first person RPG, complete with requiring you to draw your own map. EO IV doesn't have a direct story, just like its predecessors, but Untold has a Story Mode and classic mode, the story more having some unique content as well.

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Like FE:A its very accessible with challenge for those that want it. Loads of collectable monsters, recruited by negotiation, multiple endings, great soundtrack and probably the fastest combat out there in JRPGs. I've logged more hours into this 3DS game than any other because there's just lots to see and do.

Mighty Switch Force/MSF2 - solid Megaman-esqe time attack platformer with Jake "virt" Kaufman doing the music. Great games for headphones. such musics. Wow. Download it.

Pushmo/Crashmo - Great puzzle series from intelligent systems. Hundreds of puzzle to figure out.

Crimson Shroud - short, but unique dowloadable RPG by Matsuno (FFT, FFxII, Vagrant Story) blending tabletop and JRPG elements.

Liberation Maiden - Arcade mech game by Suda 51. Lower on the cray than his other games, except for the 18 year old teenage girl president with a mech part.

                    Re: Nintendo 3DS game recommendations?

Bought Code of Princess (for $24) like two days before it dropped to $20 on eShop. Bah. Finally got around to playing an hour and half of it.

The titular Princess wears a rather ... eye-catching outfit, but the humor, high production value, and button mashing battles are quite enjoyable so far. (The voice acting is only a hair above atrocious, though--I'd pay money for a Japanese voices DLC.)

                    * * *

Mighty Switch Force 1 and 2 both became on sale after I bought them; making feel worse is that I've been so taken with Shantae that I haven't even touched them. Oh well.
