Sorted out my PS4 yesterday and have to say that, besides not many game yet (tho no bad thing!) I'm loving the new interface. Still getting used to the "options" button and complete lack of start and select

I like the way that the PSN shop is faster now. Never understood why the ps3 version is so slow given that it's basically just a web browser!

Looking forward to playing Assassins Creed 4. Have played Warframe and it's comparable to my PC version graphically etc. Yes my PC is getting old...just think it, plz don't say it!

One slight niggle is the lack of the old PS AV socket. I use it to split the audio when using HDMI on my monitor (hdmi video, AV left and right audio to speakers) and can't really afford yet another sound box / sound bar thingy just to split the audio off.

Any good ideas re that would be helpful?

If you're not using Dolby ProLogic ][ "fake surround" and just want stereo audio out of a PS4, you can set it to output audio over optical/TOSLink and use a converter like this:

The latest Jimquisition hit the nail on the head really with what Sony is doing right, especially with how it is handling the Indie market. Indie games are basically there to tide you over, to be those little games you have fun playing to tide you over for that big release, or that game you are really looking forwards to. Basically like the PC except without Steam Greenlight and Early Access forcing shovelware and unfinished shite down your throat. It's something Nintendo failed to do spectacularly really (and is a massive cause of the "Got no games!" label for the Wii U, 3DS is a bit of a different matter, but they are still throwing away a good thing with how ancient and archaic the eShop is, and how rare price drops are and the console still being a shovelware breeding ground), and something the Xbox One is not doing a thing about.

It's basically taking that made PC a great platform a couple of years back and bringing it to the PS4 and Vita. Throw in PS+ being a stupidly good deal with the amount of free games it gives you. Okay most of the free games are far better on PC but the indie games it puts up are often games I wouldn't normally try out. When you can get things like Outlast, Borderlands 2, Bishock Infinite, Guacamelee, Gravity Rush, Uncharted 3 and the average Vita Uncharted game all for free, while Microsoft hides basic services like Netflix behind a paywall, and Nintendo is stuck in 2006 (seriously, have you tried using any Online functionality on the 3DS that isn't Spotpass?)... You can probably see why Sony is so far ahead right now.

Not to mention PS+ is cheaper than XB Gold. Not by that much (about $10 USD) but it's still a bonus. And we're getting more details about playstation now at GDC tomorrow I believe along with the plans for their VR headset.

it's a PC game but I've joked for the longed time that I would love the ability to play Tera on a VR headset at some point, because it would be as close as you can to playing Sword Art Online IRL XD

Then again FFXIV on a VR Headset would be pretty fun. Imagine dodging Divebombs in first person.

Geebus. Personally I'm more interested in something like God of War or Battlefield - dear lord Battlefield could be fucking EPIC with a good VR set up, particularly the aerial combat. hah, and speaking of Epic, they're one of the companies signed on to make stuff for it. Also apparently Sony is taking their stance towards Indies even further and really opening up to them with free kits and open source code.


I'm honestly just happy (and I ain't got much to be happy about lately) that the next firmware update is at long goddamn last going to allow us to disable HDCP so I can use my capture card I bought last summer, AND they're bumping up the resolution on twitch to 720p as well as enabling archiving on twitch. It's about goddamn time. Would be nice if that was a thing for inFamous but whatever, at least it'll likely be ready for Destiny and I'm hoping by then i'll have my life somewhat back in order.

Or as best as it can be anyhow. Sucks putting my streaming "career" on hold.
