Oh mew!! This has more great features and diversity than you usually get in this series. 0.0 I think I will buy a Wii U this season.
Some say it took financial problems for Nintendo to take desperate measures to make it better than it normally would have been.
That is quite impressive. I guess necessity is the mother of invention (or breakthroughs and taking further steps forward)
This is looking to be much more than an upgraded 3D Land, mew. Only this is possible on a console.

I'm going to go with "no" on account of how many excellent platformers are kicking around the market right now. Off the top of my head Super Meat Boy and They Bleed Pixels will give any Mario game a serious run for their money.

If you were talking strictly about the NSMB games, you'd be fairly correct. This is an EAD game we're talking about, though, and they constantly raise the bar for the 3D platforming genre with each new release. Super Mario Galaxy 2 was the top rated game of the PSWii60 gen for a reason.

That aside, J9 only cares about this version because there is co-op and two playable female characters. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy Peach and Rosalina are playable rather than kidnapped, but Nintendo just concocted a princess for Bowser to kidnap in their stead - the Sprixie Princess (yes, seriously, sprite+ pixie = Sprixie).

The initial trailer for 3D World was underwhelming and it was curious they were doing a follow-up to the 3DS Super Mario 3D Land like this - but then they showed off the horde of new abilities, stage concepts and played more of the big band soundtrack and I was fairly sold. Co-op is strictly local, though. Some will complain about that, but then, Mario co-op has always been like playing a game of Uno with the family, which is to say temporary alliances followed by getting screwed over or stabbed in the back. People not used to that would ragequit, most likely.

Plus speed runs are easier to keep under control locally than with kids online.

I'd argue it was never in danger to begin with. Mario platformers, while no longer punishingly hardcore or exceptionally novel, are still solid, enjoyable games, with some clever level designs and each new title adding just enough so that experience doesn't feel exactly the same.

Er... did you really even play Galaxy or Galaxy 2? Super Mario Sunshine might be considered slightly disappointing, but it had a great 3D debut to follow-up. People tend to set their expectations absurdly high after you nail a 3D transition out of the gate. Galaxy and Galaxy 2 did surpass both, though, and Nintendo's considering a third entry. Reviews for SM3DW aren't out yet, but I hear a lot of glowing praise right now from cynical old bastards.

Sorry, I've been ill and this is a thread about a Mario game.

I'm better now, just throught I'd share.

Anyway, we have Lightnining Returns and Bravely Default well before FFXV to go by. I don't need a numbered main series entry of Final Fantasy to be sure SE has their priorities in order or not. I can just look at the news, their microtransaction hopes, their cloud-processing-as-DRM dreams, their plans to bastardize FFVI for iOS and know things are going to get much worse for them (and anyone that thinks like them, which is most of the AAA industry) before they get better.

But at least we'll get Bravely Default before that happens.

The game itself looks fantastic, but seriously... bravely default? WTF?


Perhaps some day we'll get that "next gen" FF6 remake...
