Also while we're on the subject of sales and whatnot, PS4 is out tomorrow in the EU :D

Wonder how much further the sales will surge ahead of XB1, which has so far just barely kept pace with PS4 despite launching in 11 additional countries.

PS4, XBox One, Steam Sale and Origin Black Friday sale all on the week I get paid. It's like the universe is trying to force me into some idiotic impulse purchase. I'd actually be more than happy to grab the PS4 if the launch lineup was good but all the games I want for it are games I already own or aren't out until next year.

Hilarious thing about the Origin sale: Battlefield Bad Company 2 is up on there for £1 and the servers keep crashing because of it XD

State of Decay is ok on Steam but is a little buggy. FFVII? Looks and plays great on there. I know what you mean about buying it again tho...iirc I've bought it at least three times before (inc once on PSN)

I got it anyway as it went on for half price @ $9.99

And yeah it doesn't look quite as good as it does on 360 on Max settings which is weird (dunno if my PC can handle Ultra)

Torchlight 2 is only $5 and Civ V is like $7.49 which are both tempting but nah. Borderlands 2 GotY isn't bad at half price since that's $30 for the game + all the DLC (which is what it SHOULD be going for anyway, money grubbers) but again I feel I got plenty of value.

Still miffed I couldn't get a discounted PS+ membership. So bogus that it goes on for 40% off in the US but not Canada after they just launched PS4. My trial membership expires on the 15th too, so my PS4's gonna be a $400 brick until Boxing Day (in the hopes of a Canadian sale).


Thanks Sony!!!! Xbox Live cards were on sale here, but not PS+ - go figure.

Early numbers suggest 250K units sold for PS4 (sold out) at launch. Xbox One at 170K LTD in UK. Wii U at 150K LTD after 1 year.

Confirming the PS4 is pretty much sold out everywhere in the UK. No chance of getting one before Christmas for those that couldn't get one at launch.

Like I said in the other thread, there are a LOT of Playstation fans in the UK, plus the PS4 is also a hell of a lot cheaper. Remember that in Europe, Nintendo was never that big when it came to home consoles. They are better known for their handhelds and the Wii over here. The Amiga and Atari home computers were most popular in the UK and Europe during the NES era.

For the 90's kids that are adults now, the Mega Drive and Playstation were our first home consoles. It didn't help that very few good NES, SNES and N64 games were released over here. It took us until 2009 to get Chrono Trigger. We basically got Zelda and Mario. No Final Fantasy, or Earthbound, or Fire Emblem, or Chrono Trigger.

If you want to know why Nintendo is ignored in Europe (save for the handhelds), it's because Nintendo never bothered to even try and sell consoles to Europe. With the usual Japanese attitude, they always just assumed what sells in the US, will automatically stick in Europe.

I think it's more along the lines of "people who would be inclined to have some brand loyalty don't think of Nintendo in Europe because of their history." Those of us in North America sometimes complain about games taking a long time to get localized, but it's nothing compared to the sorts of localization delays that plagued Europe for decades, particularly for Nintendo platforms.

The Wii tapped into a unique market, but that demographic is basically gone. Motion gaming was fun while it lasted, but the new hotness is tablet and phone gaming, and that's where those consumers are now, aside from kids (who Nintendo already more or less have in their pocket). "In theory" the Wii U should tap into that market, but it failed to capitalize on it even without next-gen competition for an entire year due to Nintendo's bad messaging and hamfisted execution - it's just not nearly as cool to own a Wii U than an iPad.

EDIT: I think this chart illustrates the point about Nintendo living in the past + the Wii being a fad very well.

Quick post since I don't have much time:

Icemage beat me to the elaboration but yeah, the Wii sadly seems to have been a fad which is a shame really because there were a lot of fun games on that console. It was basically the console that everyone bought but only owns Wii Sports for because it came bundled with it for free. The Playstation was the first console that really developed a brand loyalty in Europe. Also worth noting that PC gaming always being a notable market in Europe, thanks to many gamer's first consoles being one of the home microcomputers like the Atari or Amiga and PCs always being marketed as being able to play your favourite video games as well as being an educational tool. I can name far more huge EU devs that do PC games than console games.

Plus I have said this a lot but it needs to be said again: all the worthwhile Nintendo exclusives come out on the 3DS, not the Wii U. The die hard Nintendo Fanboy and core gamer will always lean to that platform precisely because all the best Nintendo exclusives are 3DS only.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the Motion Gaming fans were switching to the Xbox One for Kinect.

The Wii Sports crowd is just gone, period I think, kind of the same way the Guitar Hero/Rock Band crowd is (aside from the people playing "real guitar" in Rocksmith).

The Just Dance crowd is still there, but they have a lot of options, and the decline in the Dance Central series sales indicates those people aren't really coalescing around Kinect.

We'll see if there's much traction with Kinect 2.0 on Xbox One when Fantasia: Music Evolved releases.
