Yeah, forum bullying is hilarious. Random nobodies taking potshots at J9 when they know she won't defend herself.

How is it bullying? The main reason I was laughing was because I'd forgotten about the "mew" thing and how ridiculous it sounds. Especially in a Call of Duty thread.

It would be one thing if anyone was saying anything truly malicious but I'm not seeing that, people are engaging in some actual debate. Aside from Dak's post, I don't see anyone here outright being disrespectful. There was actually discussion (with aforementioned "mews" interspersed.) I guess you're gonna white knight though ... seriously J9 doesn't seem to mind or be fazed by it and seems perfectly capable of self-defense.

And I would take potshots at anyone here. I've done it several times. If people are offended, they can say so. You seem to be the only person bothered by it.

I'll have you know that COD has become more appealing to more girl gamers thanks to female soldiers in COD Ghosts multiplayer. Some still use the male soldiers, but female soldiers is a big deal to girl gamers that prefer playable female characters [...] I mean where would Street Fighter be if it was only guys in the series roster?

Most girls (and women) probably won't find first person shooters appealing no matter which gender the avatars. While I'm sure it helps a bit, this is more of a PR talking point than any serious attempt at drawing more female players to the franchise.

As for Street Fighter (IV), I've been watching videos the top rounds of Evolution and other tournaments for years now--not that there weren't (a small number of) women in the audience, but I struggle to recall female players in the top 16 for all but smallest tournaments (or have team formats).

(Note: I tend to prefer female characters to male ones, so I'm not against this 'trend'--just that I think the connection between "more female characters" to "more female players" is not all that strong.)

I remember there being a few really good ones showing up in the pools this year¹, but once you get to the top 16 it's pretty much the same few people at every tournament. Justin Wong, PR Balrog, Filipinochamp, Tokido, Infiltration, ChrisG, Dieminion, SnakeEyez, etc, etc.

Seriously, the same group of top players just roam from tournament to tournament so it tends to not matter who's local in a lot of tournaments because you have the best players in the world flying in to trounce everyone. Or at least that's what I've seen in the tournaments I've followed lately.

I know far more girls and women that love Kingdom Hearts than men, and the protagonists there are all male as one example.

People like a protagonist because they are appealing, engaging, entertaining or you just simply like them for some reason you can't explain. Gender rarely fits into it, and if your protagonist must be a certain gender for you to like them then there are far more issues there.

When you look at Call of Duty or Battlefield, it really doesn't matter what race, gender or age the character is, especially since at the end of the day is makes zero difference, something that my thirteen year old sister can plainly see. I would like to point out that she agrees that they likely only added female soldiers to appeal to boys, especially since her friends won't shut up about it and she is literally the only names female character in the game. Honestly the dog has more personality than her and she exists in the game solely to give you something to fight for.

Seriously, Specialist Kyra Mosley's only role in the game is to die. That is it.

Sorry but when a thirteen year old girl can see that your female character is the only one of any importance, is not only tokenism, but also pretty sexist given that the implications of adding the token woman are that women are just a subtype of men despite making up over 3 billion of the global population. I would also like to once again point out that the mascot character has far more personality than the single token female character that only has one very medieval and dated role in the game.

Honestly compared to Black Ops 2, Ghosts just seems bad. They implemented none of the changes that made the campaign actually fun to play, another telling thing about the game's state is that it hasn't even dented the sales of Black Ops 2 or GTAV, so even the dudebro (got I hate that term) guys are seeing that Infinity Ward isn't worth bothering with anymore. Especially when Ghosts does nothing to separate itself from MW3.

Shame really, both Ghosts and Battlefield 4 are buggy unplayable messes in multiplayer as well. I don't care much for Modern Military Shooters anymore but I have friends who preordered the PS4 purely to get the game on a shiny new console and are pretty pissed as to how both games are turning out.

And it's not even a decent death, she just gets hosed badly. Though I would argue the other guy (name escapes) got it far, far worse - at least Mosley was already dead by the time her body hit re-entry. The other dude was sour about life for a solid minute I'd wager (no idea how long exactly a person could stand that kind of heat and pressure).


And is anyone really surprised Ghosts sucks? It was Infinity Ward's turn at bat and they never deliver. Trey Arc is the dev that actually tries, though even then they still suck IMO. I don't get why Activison even bothers with IW anymore, they'd be a lot better off just sticking with Treyarc and doing an entry in the series every other year. Maybe then they'd actually have enough time to refine the games into something decent.



EDIT: I've been hearing mixed results about BF4 and am aware of the problems, however I would argue that at least DICE actually gives a shit, as they fixed pretty much every glaring issue from the beta in no time and have a good tract record for patches. I'm sure they're scrambling to fix the problems, though it'll likely be a little while still. Ghosts? Nah, game's a total write off. Again, look at their facebook page - people are PISSED at the game.

The ending was so stupid too, they set it up for another trilogy basically which just had me gagging at the end. I thought to myself initially "Well, at least this one ends on an OK note" and then NOPE, stupidly obviously totally nonsensical ending twist happens (how the fuck did any of them survive the train wreck anyway, I'm pretty sure the shockwave alone should have liquified their organs)

There are a few other Japanese players who likely would be in top 16 fairly consistently in the international scene if they can travel more often. Sako and Kazunoko, in particular.

I didn't see Choco winning very often. One female player I'd like to see getting more international exposure would be Karipaku (Cody player).

Daigo's been slipping lately. He'll consistently land in top 8 but he hasn't won a tournament in about a year. He's also traveling less and less.

What I'm getting at is that when you look at tournament results, the top 8 are almost universally pulled from the same pool of several dozen players.
