Re: Perfect Day - IT BEGINS!
Perfect Day was "ok", but this new ad from Sony is... something else.
For The Players Since 1995
Many great memories all packed into a few short minutes.
Sony changed their ad agency last year, and the new people behind this advertising push are good. These commercials are truly fantastic.

"We fired the racists from our marketing division" is a very good message.
I will never not begrudge Sony for that memory card thing, though.Originally posted by ArmandoNo one at Square Enix has heard of Occam's Razor.Originally posted by ArmandoNintendo always seems to have a legion of haters at the wings ready to jump in and prop up straw men about hardware and gimmicks and casuals.Originally posted by TaskmageGOD IS MIFFED AT AMERICA

Wow, they really glossed over their best era, didn't they?
At least the guy grew up to be smart enough to not leave the console on the damn carpet.Last edited by Omgwtfbbqkitten; 10-21-2013, 07:35 PM.

Re: Perfect Day - IT BEGINS!
I don't really care for the Perfect Day ad, if only for the fact it seems to aim for the traditional demographic rather than show games have kind of grown beyond that by referencing games like Journey or Plants Vs. Zombies. Instead, gaming is communicated in a rather dated fashion where its just about shooting guys and crashing cars.
I realize they need to promote their anemic launch line-up, but still.

^.^ Anemic my ass, Sony really knows how to put together a killer demonstration.
Also, they forgot to mention that Destiny will also have exclusive DLC for PS4.
If any console's looking anemic, it's the damn Xbox One - and I'm not saying that just to hate on MS, there really doesn't seem to be much in the way of exclusives or otherwise unique content on the horizon. AFAIK, Spark is the only really new thing they've got that's looking even remotely interesting, possibly Ryse. Oh and Titanfall, but oh yay, another game from the guys that brought us MW2...

You two are Sony fanboys, though.
I actually have to try to sell these things to normal humans. Ones who are not going to give a damn about Infamous, Killzone, Knack or DriveClub and just see a tidal wave of games they can already get on PS3, 360, Wii U or PC.

Hardly. True I love most of what Sony does, but I don't fancy myself White-Knighting for them the way you do with Nintendo.
Sony's done some bone-headed shit in the past that's pissed me off (like removing BC from PS3). They just happen to offend me the least of the 3.

Sure, I may bag on Nintendo and Microsoft lately for falling all over themselves in competing for the title of Captain Oblivious lately, but who isn't bagging on them for that lately? They're both making stupid mistakes all over the place, and it's just a bit sad to see them flailing around so much when all either of them had to do was stop and talk to their customers for a while.
Sony has made some mistakes too (lolVita memory card pricing, letting Monster Hunter get away as a primarily Sony franchise, weak PS4 first party slate, DriveClub delayed) but those aren't the sort of brand-destroying things that Nintendo and Microsoft have been engaging in lately (Wii U's disaster-train of failed PR/design, Xbox One's toxic brew of PR spin before their abrupt turnarounds in the face of consumer fury).
Valve deserves a lot of credit. I don't think they're going to get much of anywhere with the SteamBox, but SteamOS has a real shot to revolutionize the PC gaming space, and I truly hope it does. As for their Steam controller... I'll reserve judgment until I see some hands-on reports of how it actually works with games that people play.
If I have a preference for Sony's attitude, it has everything to do with their approach to gaming in general. I like their balanced approach to game software catalogues, and I particularly like how they're addressing the changing market conditions for the home console vs. mobile space.
And honestly to get back to the original topic, Sony's PR has been pretty close to flawless all year long. It's a stark change from how they were back in 2006-2007, and I can't help but approve of how much they've worked to bring their trajectory in line with what I personally want to see out of gaming in the future. These new ads really are remarkably good, particularly compared to some of the horrifying ads they've produced in the past.
