He's well known within the industry and has one of the most beloved franchises in history under his belt. He doesn't need to beg for internet money.
Money is hard to come by. Even the anime industry in Japan (within Japan) is struggling ... and they are grateful for the gobs of $$$ from outside of Japan keeping them afloat. Trigger got 48 million yen from Anime Mirai (VC) to fund the first episode of Little Witch Academia. However, the popularity and success were mostly received from the international community, and thus they would not have secured funding for future episodes (within Japan). They went to Kickstarter and was well received and completely surpassed expectations as well as exceeded support of that from a private VC. Now many in the anime industry are starting to pivot to the international community, and are now feeling unrestrained and more creative/edgy with new projects. This is good for the industry overall, nay, healthier even, then having regurgitated haremesque garbage spewed out in cours or half-cours season after season...
I hope this could help revive the video game industry in Japan, even if by a little, or at least change the ideology of their creative process and broaden their appeal to outside of the Japanese market (since it's pretty much going to the dogs at this rate)
