Re: Gamestop Is Re-Stocking Xenoblade Chronicles & Metroid Prime
They're restocking and distorting the actual common value of these games to exploit the comsumer.
Both games are common finds getting ridiculosly jacked up for no other reason than a retailer claiming its rare, which is complete and absolute bullshit. GS wouldn't give you more than $15 for such games just weeks ago and now they're magically 70 or 90 bucks when they sold for $40 or less before.
Add to this that GS was already caught gutting new copies of Xenoblade to sell as used "vintage" titles. This is not only slimey to consumers but exploiting Nintendo, who gave them exclusive distibution rights in the first place. GS is taking a serious risk in losing exclusivity deals with publishers when they do that.
And as someone in the know with GS, they are not improving financially, employee hours are still getting cut, positions dropped and retail sales are at a new low as we head into the holiday.

GameStop didn't jack the price on Xenoblade and Metroid Prime Trilogy on their own. The prices on eBay reflected the rarity, because both titles were woefully underprinted. The North American discs are just freaking rare, period.
As far as I am aware, Xenoblade has been worth about $35 base trade-in credit before promotions at GameStop for quite some time, and Metroid Prime Trilogy even higher (granted, the going price for both is still far higher...).

Re: Gamestop Is Re-Stocking Xenoblade Chronicles & Metroid Prime
Somehow I knew you'd hop in to defend "collectors" but get on board with typical GS behavior. There ARE collectors that are just shitheads out to exploit and create false rarity. MPT was barely worth $30 or $40 a few month back (I looked into this due to a small financial issue).
I have a strong memory of people exploiting and gaming the system to get a number of Ni No Kuni's Canadian CEs only to jack up its price beyond it demand. Hyrule Hisoria had that happen, too.
Persona 2 Eternal Punishment's physical reissue in 2009 was totally bought out by a group of parasites that sold it for over $100 right up until the PSN digital release.
Some so-called collectors are really just assholes out to exploit the consumer rather than be actual gamers that respect what they sell and who they sell it to. Amazon sellers putting games in paper sleeves was never an acceptable reason for GS to do it.. Hell, do you know how many people will sell only the disc of Xenoblade without case and instructions for $90 now? Well over half because like GS, if not moreso, they will be pressed for space to store the inventory they take on. Turns out those BD and DVD cases add up and they hope you don't know any better.

So why so much outrage? It's a fact of life, and the problem isn't really the scalpers and speculators; the problem is that GameStop and Nintendo just didn't manufacture enough product to meet demand. Had they done so, all the speculators in the world wouldn't make a difference because the people that actually wanted copies would have one and there wouldn't be off-market demand. Plain and simple.

It's obvious to even the casual observer that GameStop is shamelessly exploiting the situation with Xenoblade and Metroid Prime Trilogy. Xenoblade in particular is awful because they (and maybe also clueless Nintendo) are the ones who created the shortage in the first place due to them being the only retailer.
I do like how you're trying to whitewash Nintendo in this discussion, though.
Here's food for thought: If GameStop did indeed print more copies of Xenoblade and Metroid Prime, do you really think they could get away with doing so without Nintendo knowing about and blessing it?

Re: Gamestop Is Re-Stocking Xenoblade Chronicles & Metroid Prime
I got my copy used for about $40 used. At the time, the cheapest I could find it on Ebay was $90 before tax and shipping - some auctions had just the GAME CASE, not even the actual game, going for like $100....
I don't plan on selling it, ever, so the diminished secondary market value means very little to me. I'm just happy more people will have a chance to grab what I deem to be the best RPG of this generation of consoles.
