I'm actually pretty optimistic about Lightning Returns and XV. XIII-2 did address the critical problems with FFXIII, and Square Enix are learning that they can't just churn out games and rely on it selling because it's Final Fantasy.

I like that they seem to be going for a full on Action RPG. One annoying thing about XIII and XIII-2 was that the games seemed like they couldn't decide between a turn based RPG or an Action RPG.

I resent that. ARR is looking better and better, especially with all the recent stuff they posted on the beta forums (which can't divulge until friday)

It could have metamorphosed into the best MMO butterfly in the universe and it won't matter at all because the vast majority of people have already written it off. Square-Enix completely botched their chance to make a first impression, and so far none of their marketing behind FFXIV:ARR suggests to me that they think it can change minds.

Kudos to the FFXIV dev team for sticking it out and doing their best under the circumstances, but with shiny new consoles pulling people in other directions this winter as well as a plethora of fantasy hack-and-slash MMOs already on the market, you have to wonder what they can build a user base out of. It CERTAINLY won't be from people who get excited about playing FFXV.

Not allowed. SE has already stated on the beta forum that you aren't allowed to put videos on youtube because of the copyrighted music and sounds.

They didn't say more than that, and the post regarding it was back in Phase 1. Things might of changed. /shrug

Yeah I just double checked, Screenshots are fine but the NDA won't be fully lifted until Phase 4 (open beta)

Wait, do you mean like, as in EVER, or just during beta, because there are a lot of FFXIV videos from 1.23 and before on Youtube and none of those people got banned (hell I was in a few).

The MMO market is largely fluid and composes of just about as wide of a gamut of player interests, skill levels and financial background as gaming industry itself. To make any predictions on how that industry will fare is akin to making a prediction on when and where a terrorist somewhere around the world will strike.

people are vastly underestimating the impact of the PS3 version in Japan and SE's ramped up marketing campaign.

I told you they'd be kicking it into full gear when the time came - Yoshida's no slouch.

Only thing I'm disappointed in so far with XV is that it's also on Xbox... which, normally I wouldn't take issue with except:

- Vs 13 was *promised* to be exclusive
- I want to see XBONE crash and burn for the horrible policies MS is pushing.
