I can't find a drag queen gif that shows how horrendously funny that is.

        I has a sad.

(I like how Japan isn't even getting the thing until late 2014.)

The reason for that is the MANDATORY 1.5 mbp/s or better Internet connection.

And yes, MK8 looks awesome. That's 4 games I want for Wii U now (5 I guess if you include Zombie U) - Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros & the new "X" game.

I'm usually apathetic about Mario Kart these days, didn't care for Double Dash, MK DS, MK Wii or MK7, but MK8 did grab my attention. Very good-looking game and it finally has some fresh ideas again.

Bayonetta 2's looking quite nice, too. Dig Bayonetta's new look.

MGS V and "X"... I almost threw my wallet at the screen. its so rare to see huge open world games like this from Japan, so I'm eager to see where Kojima Productions and Monolith go with their games.

Really only disappointed at the fact that SMT X FE and Fallout 4 were no-shows, the real lack of most things Vita and nothing Matroid beyond Samus being in Smash Bros. I am, however, happy that Retro Studios seems to be rather enthusiastic about DKC and wanted to work things into another game that they couldn't squeeze into the first. And to be fair, Donkey Kong does deserve some more action - though I am a bit ready for them to retire the "Rare" look.

I mean. Mario gets the realistic look, the cartoony look in M&L, turns into paper in Paper Mario. Kirby and Yoshi have been converted into yarn. Link has been a toon and more recently dabbled in watercolor. I think DK and the Star Fox team are due for a fresh look. Samus gets new suits like every other game so she's okay. Yusuke Kozaki freshed up Fire Emblem incredibly well, I hope he gets a go at Advance Wars or even Zelda.

Describing it as a “staged approach” to marketing the new videogame console, Alan Bowman, Microsoft’s regional vice president for sales and marketing in Asia, said the company was working on ensuring a “great experience for customers” in the region, including offering localized content.

The new device will only be available in select Asian markets – Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and India – pegged as high-growth markets for the region’s booming gaming industry. This year, the Xbox became the top-selling console in Asia, according to Mr. Bowman, with revenues growing 20% year-on-year.
Notice that Japan is NOT on that list.

The press release does have Japan getting the console with the Asia release. It mentions Tokyo and even has Japan listed in the last paragraph.

                    ?

Name-dropping Tokyo doesn't mean they intend to release there any time soon.

The only update I've found is an interview in Famitsu:

A (MS Japan): One Xbox will be on sale in the region of 21 around the world in November 2013.

Q : So, please tell me the region of 21 to be released in November.
A : Region of 21 of the following:. It is Denmark United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Australia, France, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico, Spain, Russia, Brazil, Italy, Sweden, Norway, New Zealand, Belgium, Finland, and Austria.

Q : Japan is not in the region of 21 but, Xbox One or will be released in Japan? Also, When will I When is you if you would be?
A : Yes. As an all-in-one system of new generation, Microsoft is expected to launch in Japan of Xbox One has. Will be published in appropriate future opportunity For more information about deploying in Japan, including the release date.
The obvious conclusion is that, if they're already stating that they're releasing in Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, and South Korea with a late 2014 release window, and they don't have a time frame for Japan, it will be later than that, yes?

It's not "that" surprising, considering the Xbox 360 sells a sum total of maybe 500 units per week in all of Japan each week, but giving up on the third largest gaming market worldwide - especially one that is home to a very disproportionate number of game developers - is rank insanity.

To be fair, both the original and 360 did very poorly in Japan so it's honestly no surprise at all.

What's truly hilarious is the German Govt's reaction to the Xbox One - they're classifying its an espionage device and might even ban it, rofl.

EDIT: my reply got put inside the quote somehow lol, had to fix that.

                        Sure but follow my logic.

If you're a Japanese developer who primarily focuses on the Japanese market, and the Xbox One isn't going to be released in Japan for the next year and a half at the earliest, are you going to work on an Xbox One version of your latest game?

Microsoft can kiss their relationship with shmup developers goodbye (Cave, Treasure, etc.). They can kiss their long association with the id@lmaster franchise goodbye while they're at it too. All those JRPG studio relationships that they cultivated early on in the 360's life cycle? Yeah, gone.

And even for the multinational Japanese developers, how do Capcom, Square-Enix, Konami, Namco-Bandai, Koei-Tecmo, etc. explain to their countrymen that the game they're developing can't even be played by the people they live with? If there's a PS4 and/or Wii U version, they can get away with it, but an Xbox One exclusive? No way.

EDIT: My main source of confusion is why they would choose to deliberately ignore Japan in this way when there are more developers there than any other nation other than the US. Even a token launch there - even knowing it would bomb - would still give Japanese developers a face-saving out, but it looks like they're not even doing that...

Which is the exact opposite of what the UK Government is doing. Both the Tories and Labour love the idea of a camera and microphone constantly connected to the internet in peoples living rooms >.<

Aside: I wonder what CD Project RED think of their work on The Witcher 3. Poland's not on the release list of launch countries for Xbox One, so it's entirely possible that they won't even be able to play that version of their own game when it releases.

The 360 can't even be played in Poland anyway due to Microsoft locking the country out of the 360 entirely due to piracy, so it probably won't make much of a difference.
