    Re: E3 2013 Schedule

I dunno, cartridges were a pain in the arse and if the battery died then there goes all of your progress. Plus they also pushed up manufacturing costs for games due to them being very expensive to actually produce.

IMO they're a relic of the past that I really don't miss and belong in museums.

      Re: E3 2013 Schedule

Call it a trade-off. I can understand the downsides of the battery being integrated along with the storage, but I really do miss the simplicity of "put game into console, play game" as opposed to the run around we have now where consoles have many of the same hang-ups as PCs do. Maybe do something to make it more modular so that storage and the game media itself are separate. The N64 managed to have memory cards while still being cartridge based so it's not like it's completely implausible. Batteries being integrated into the cartridges and non-replaceable short of soldering is a definite flaw, but I'm not convinced it's insurmountable, it just needs to actually be addressed rather than being ignored. We need an industry that builds games to withstand the test of time, both in their game design and in their physical preservation.

I'm being serious about cartridges belonging in museums though. They don't make them anymore and I would love to see them in technology sections of museums, especially given they have had a significant cultural impact. Imagine having to explain to the next generation what a cartridge was.

Sony paid for its arrogance by being placed at a distant third for a good three years and every market it used to lead in for the last several. The fact of the matter is, however, Xbox One doesn't deserve any success just based on how its structured.

So apparently Dragon Age III is going to be open world and you can be any race you like as long as it's human.

                BF4, have my babies.

Oh my God, I totally wet myself when that 300m building came crashing down (and it destroyed the C flag O.O )

Fucking AWESOME!!! BF4 = what BF3 should have been.

I'm a little confused by the new Squad limit though - 5? So, 12 teams of 5 and then 1 team of 4 + a commander or ?

Not sure how that works exactly.

                  Re: E3 2013 Schedule

Just getting caught up on today's developments at Microsoft and EA.

                  Microsoft showed:

                  Exclusive

Sunset Overdrive (Insomniac) <- Some Sony fanboys are probably flipping out over this, but honestly considering how weak Fuse is as a game, skepticism should be applied here.
                  Lococycle (Twisted Pixel)
                  Ryse (Crytek)
                  Quantum Break (Remedy)
                  Below (Capybara)
Titanfall (Respawn) <- ending your presser on this, Microsoft? Really?
                  Killer Instinct (Double Helix)
Black Tusk Project / unnamed (Black Tusk Studios)
                  Project Spark (unknown studio)
Crimson Dragon (Grounding) <- Hah! I knew it!
                  Halo 5 (343 Industries) <- of course

                  Timed Exclusive (?)
Dead Rising 3 (Capcom) <- I suspect this is timed exclusive and not true exclusive, unless Capcom has some sort of axe to grind with Keiji Inafune
Minecraft (Mojang) <- Not sure if this is actually multiplatform/timed/exclusive, going to assume it's timed exclusive for now.

                  Multiplatform
Battlefield 4 (EA) <- Watch this carefully when the comparisons to PS4 version start emerging
Call of Duty: Ghosts (Activision) <- Same as above.
The Witcher 3 (CD Project Red) <- This slightly surprises me, considering CDPR's hostile stance towards DRM

Overall, seems like a good show for Microsoft. I need to watch it entirely before grading it, but the conspicuous absence of tech talk, DRM statements, or anything other than games indicates Microsoft knows how deep the PR hole they have to fill is. Will it be enough to overshadow the horrific DRM situation? Time will tell.

                    Ubisoft just ended.

The Division, The Quest for Epic Loot & Watch Dogs all looked great.

WTF Double Helix is doing Killer Instinct? That's a bit odd.

MGS V: The Phantom Pain looks *phenomenal* can't wait to get my hands on it.

All I've seen of Halo 5 is that shot of John wearing a cloak... so, what's the deal? Not that it matters anyway as I still won't get a Failbox One - the ridiculous price tag is just yet another nail in the coffin.

Well, its not like Rare as we knew them still exists, even so... you'd think they'd give the IP to someone a bit more proven in the genre. Not that a fossil like Killer Instinct needed to be resurrected. It wasn't even that great of a fighter for its time.

Speaking of old fighters, I'm still miffed Darkstalkers is Wii U only...

EDIT: Well, as long as Nintendo has that exclusive deal with SEGA, why don't they try a new Panzer Dragoon? Could be cool with the tablet - maybe see from the Dragon's PoV with it?

That whole scene needed to end with Shai Hulud coming out of the sand and it not being a Halo game at all.
