I can never take these panels seriously anymore. They always make me laugh how cheesy they are.

The always online thing is kind of a deal breaker for me with the new XBox so I'm wondering if they are being sensible and getting rid of it.

No BC (per Wired) means seven years of retail games and digital content down the toilet with no viable hardware excuse for it - Strike one.
2nd user install requires a fee (per Wired)/the new online pass/anti-used tech - strike two

And the exclusive DLC bullcrap continues... only part of the show that honestly disappointed me (though wasn't unexpected either).

I watched the entire thing live, don't recall them saying anything about any of that.

Hence why I added "(per Wired)"

You know, that geeky tech mag, they just posted their info. I don't particularly care for the editorializing toward the end, acting as though PS4 and Wii U aren't even touching entertainment functions and Xbox One is the only one doing it, but then, there's already two things I find problematic with Xbox One. I don't care about it being an all-in-one media thing, I can get Netflix and Youtube on just about anything.

                  Re: Xbox Reveal

                  We'll have to wait for E3 for more info I guess, but 2 things jump out at me;

                  - Xbox One is *incredibly* bulky, holy crap.

                  - No BC? Da fuq? It's not like PS4 where they literally can't do it because of Cell - what the hell is MS's excuse? And so the whole no used games thing is true then... or rather, you'll have to pay a fee. Well, I still think some of the features they showed off were cool, and very American lol...

Sorry, but the whole thing just shouted out "Here's new ways for you to be as lazy as possible."

                    Re: Xbox Reveal

What was bothersome is they hardly showed anything remarkable.

EA Sports (yawn), a new Forza and CoD were all expected. That Quantum game was a big tease and while I appreciate their devotion to trucking on with Halo as a multi-media metafranchise, that's not a Halo game they showed there.

Well, to be fair Halo 4 did just come out last year, but still - not even a teaser? Not even something from all those Rare IPs they have wasting away?

                      Re: Xbox Reveal

Everything I've heard about this generation's consoles just further reinforces the notion that sitting it out is the best option for this generation. I'm just not finding any of the upcoming consoles appealing.

No BC without a viable hardware excuse for it

Enforced fees for if a disc has already been installed on another XBox meaning getting a game second hand or as a rental is out of the window.

Plus they're going to phase in an enforced always online functionality.

And they want people to buy this shit?

I tried to find a pony image macro but honestly the whole thing is so facepalm worthy I can't be bothered to search so just have Trixie being epic instead:

The end of the world is when consoles no longer have backwards compatibility.

                          Oh wait...

The only thing here of remote interest to me is that Spielberg is co-producing a live-action Halo TV series.

I gave ponies a try without any prior interest to them, so it wouldn't hurt to see how well that goes when it comes out.

                              Re: Xbox Reveal

Oh, seems the install also requires an online connection to check and make sure you're totally legit as the first installer.

So that's a DRM with a fee for secondary installations. And the line in the sand as now been drawn with retailers.

This a week after EA says online passes are a thing of the past and they have no Wii U games in development, then have a special partnership with exclusives for Xbox One. I also don't seem to recall as many specifics about the PS4's installation specifics, either. Hopefully the press will get them to start being more specific.

Well, my plans for next gen remain unaltered - 3DS, Vita, Wii U, PC/Steam Box and I'm done. If I'm going to put up with one-time activations and DRM, I can at least do it with the least invasive service, best community options and best value with the least bullshit - Steam. That we're even hearing talk about DLC exclusives before the system is even out just goes to show the downward spiral that began this generation hasn't reached the bottom yet.
